Geopatriotism, or visiting a geographer, AV Belousov, a participant of the national award "crystal compass". "The Western Caucasus is a mountainous country of a thousand lakes. And what is the most difficult thing in expeditions

If you can't get to the mountains this weekend, I highly recommend you attend the next event!
I myself will definitely try to visit it. They promise interesting and eminent speakers, but I have long been interested to see what is being done at open events of the Russian Geographical Society.
Officially, everything sounds like this:

On December 9, 2017, the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society will hold a solemn Meeting dedicated to the International Day of Mountains.

International Mountain Day is celebrated annually around the world on December 11, by the decision of the UN General Assembly, adopted in 2003. The purpose of the holiday is to draw attention to the important role of mountain regions.

Since 2003, in the Krasnodar Territory, the celebration of the International Day of the Mountains has been organized and carried out by the Krasnodar Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, with the participation of various state and public organizations.

Traditionally, this event is attended by members of the Russian Geographical Society, travelers, climbers and tourists different generations, ethnographers and mountain lovers, teachers and cultural workers, students, government officials and the media.

This year, as part of the holiday throughout the Krasnodar Territory, local branches of the Russian Geographical Society will hold various events dedicated to the mountain theme. At the sites, it will be possible to get acquainted with the mining projects of the Krasnodar regional branch of the Society, communicate with famous travelers and researchers of mountain systems, see an exhibition of book products by the publishing center of the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society, as well as the work of photo artists.

In addition, those who wish themselves can prepare a presentation and speak with it at a solemn meeting dedicated to the International Day of Mountains - 2017, which will be held in the regional capital.

This year the International Mountain Day is celebrated for the fifteenth time - the holiday was established by the decision of the 57th UN General Assembly in January 2003. “Mountains under pressure: climate change, hunger, migration” - this is the theme of the 2017 International Mountain Day.

Nearly one billion people live in mountainous regions, and more than half of the world's population depends on mountains for fresh water, food and clean energy. Despite their important role, mountainous regions are still subject to many risks, such as climate change, land degradation, resource depletion and natural disasters, with far-reaching devastating consequences for mountain communities and the rest of the world.

Mountains are early indicators of climate change, and in the face of global warming, mountain people, who are already vulnerable to hunger and poverty, are most challenged and therefore have to work even harder to survive. Mountain glaciers are melting at an unprecedented rate, threatening to provide fresh water to millions of people in the plains. In turn, mountain communities have accumulated over many centuries a huge layer of knowledge and strategies for coping and adapting to a changing climate.

In Russia, mountains and hills are located in 43 regions of the Federation. Our most famous mountain systems are the Greater Caucasus, the Ural Mountains, Altai (the highest mountainous region of Siberia), the Verkhoyansk ridge (Yakutia), the Western and Eastern Sayan mountains (southern Siberia), the Chersky ridge (northeast Siberia), Sikhote-Alin (Far East).

It is worth noting that the proposed theme "Mountains under pressure: climate change, hunger, migration" for the celebration of the International Day of Mountains is a voluntary choice. When preparing materials for participation in this event, you can develop and use other topics that are most relevant for our region.

The organizers of the event are waiting for your suggestions and applications for drawing up the program of the International Day of Mountains - 2017. Contacts: Alexander Belousov, e-mail [email protected] , tel. 8-953-069-41-06.

Who is a Geopatriot? On this moment there is no exact definition of this word ... Neither in dictionaries, nor in encyclopedias, and even the all-knowing Yandex is trying to correct the "error" in a search query for an ordinary one. patriot". But in reality there is only a delightful combination of two principles -" geo "and" patriot "... And it leads us to absolutely correct associations in understanding the new word.
Geopatriotism - love for the geographical objects of their homeland - a unique country with a rich cultural and natural heritage. But not just silent love at a distance, but effective love, as if calling to do something for your country, even if a small reciprocal action, but to do it!
What am I ...?
Over the past few days, I have received three e-mail invitations to vote for various participants in the Crystal Compass First Prize in the field of national geography, ecology, conservation and popularization of the natural and historical and cultural heritage of Russia. Three times! For participants from other regions. But ... I did not vote))))) My personal geopatriotism spoke in me, which became the catalyst for the writing of this article.

But this award is even closer to all residents of the Kuban than to the rest of the Russians !!! Why? Let's plunge into a short, but already so bright the story of the "Crystal Compass"...

" The official start was given on November 16, 2012 in Krasnodar.
Domestic and foreign public organizations, scientific and educational institutions, enterprises of various fields, as well as independent initiative groups, public figures and other individuals.
Projects are accepted in nine nominations, each of which assumes high achievements in the field of national geography and ecology, preservation and popularization of the natural, historical and cultural heritage of Russia.
The organizers of the award are Krasnodar regional branch Russian Geographical Society and the corporate association "Gazprom in the Kuban".
The main goal of the award is to find and support those who sincerely consider Russia their home, respect and protect the environment in which they live. These are individuals, enterprises, scientists and public figures - all whose example, whose activities will help the general public discover new reasons to be proud of their homeland.
Projects that will participate in the award are projects that help not only preserve, but also recreate a comfortable living environment russian man, nature, culture of the country, to collect a unique gene code of Russia. "
The results of the award will be announced in May. You can view all projects.

Let me remind you that so beloved by many schoolchildren and teachers of our region, the open regional intellectual competition "" was a laureate of the National Prize Crystal Compass "!

And this year's participants have set a new record by sending over 300 projects to the organizing committee. In 2016, projects and achievements from Russia, USA, China, Belarus, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Serbia and Mongolia were nominated for the award.

80 regions!
19 participating countries!
About half a million votes have already been cast for the favorites!

Today the author of one of the leading projects of our region is visiting Geographic:

- head and organizer of expeditions, full member of the Expedition Center of the Krasnodar Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society.

You can read in detail about the project and watch its presentation on the project page on the Crystal Compass Award website... It was from her that I took these three frames-pictures.

This is a real project, implemented, but not completed, because the study of the lakes of the Teberda reserve and adjacent territories continues!

And I managed to take a short interview with the author of the project - Alexander Vladimirovich Belousov ...

1. Alexander Vladimirovich, how did you come to the Russian Geographical Society? How did you start to participate and conduct expeditions?

I've been fond of mountains for quite a long time. At the first stages I went on hikes, later - with certain specific goals in the expedition. Initially, I plan all my trips and expeditions on my own, so along the way I had to master a lot of useful related disciplines: cartography, navigation, orienteering, etc.
So, in December 2010, at the International Day of the Mountains, I was lucky to meet the famous scientist and researcher Yu.V. Efremov. This event became a landmark for me. Having got acquainted with my tourist and expeditionary experience, Yuri Vasilyevich suggested that I continue his business - to study the lakes of the Caucasus and lead expeditions under the auspices of the Russian Geographical Society. Without thinking twice, I agreed. The fact is that I inculcated love for mountain lakes and the mountains of the Caucasus from my books and this wonderful person. Per last years our creative union has grown and strengthened, and this year we plan to publish a monograph on the lakes of the Teberdinsky reserve and adjacent territories.

2. How many years have you been with the Russian Geographical Society?

It turns out ... for over 5 years!

3. Expeditions to the Teberda Nature Reserve - at whose expense?

Yes, at my own expense. I tried to attract sponsors, but to no avail.

4. How do you recruit a group? Who are the participants?

The main composition of the expeditionary group was formed in 2005-2006. We just met some of the participants in the mountains on the route. Before that, the group members had experience in mountain hikes, climbing in the Western Caucasus, as well as water trips in the Urals. From 2005 to 2007, we conducted several joint hikes in the upper reaches of the river. Malaya Laba, r. Urushtein, r. Big Zelenchuk.
2008 is associated with the beginning of the group's scientific expeditionary activities. From 2008 to 2010, three official expeditions were carried out to the zone of absolute conservation of the Caucasian Biosphere Reserve, approved by the leadership of the Caucasian Biosphere Reserve and the Orenburg Agrarian University.
In 2011, the expedition "Abishara-Akhuba Ridge - Lake Province" took place.
Since 2012, the group has been annually conducting expeditionary surveys of lakes in the Teberda Biosphere Reserve and adjacent territories under the auspices of the Russian Geographical Society. The group is open and always ready to welcome new members into its ranks.

The main composition of the group:

Belousov Alexander Vladimirovich, head and organizer of expeditions, full member of the Expeditionary Center of the Krasnodar regional branch of the All-Russian public organization "Russian Geographical Society" - KRO RGO, field expedition experience - 25 years.
Simonenkova Victoria Anatolievna, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Forest Science, Landscaping and Forest Protection, Orenburg State Agrarian University, full member of the Russian Geographical Society, - collection of material, field expedition experience - 20 years.
Simonenkov Vladislav Sergeevich, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Orenburg state University, full member of the Russian Geographical Society - collecting material, filming, photo session, field expedition experience - 20 years.
Gavrilenko Sergey Viktorovich- navigation (Krasnodar), field expedition experience - 12 years.
Safonenkov Vasily Sergeevich - collection of material (Krasnodar), field expedition experience - 7 years.
Afanasov Maxim Ivanovich - photo session (Krasnodar), field expedition experience - 5 years.

5. What is the most difficult part of expeditions?

The most difficult thing (for me personally) is getting ready for the expedition: to think over everything, take everything you need, not forget anything.

There are also difficulties on expeditions, for example, lack of drinking water. And this happens - for example, the southern slopes of Semenov-Bashi (July 2015), we had to look for small snowfields and collect water literally drop by drop.

6. Why did you decide to be nominated for the Prize?

To draw the attention of the Russian public to our region and its wonderful mountains and lakes, which are no worse than the Alps, and in some respects even better. Strictly speaking, the Swiss themselves spoke about this back in 1904, having made several first ascents in the upper reaches of the river. Teberda.

7. Alexander Vladimirovich, and ... finally, not quite a modest question ... I will understand if you don't answer. What is the prize?
Statuette + diploma + public recognition + .........?
Perhaps a certain amount for research or a prize for publications, etc. etc.? Or just
statuette + diploma + public recognition?

Lilia Pavlovna, the prize has no monetary rewards. But I think that in our rather difficult time, reward would not hurt those people whose project also carries a social and scientific component. So, for example, it's time for us to update some group equipment, not to mention the equipment, in addition to this, hydrochemical studies of water samples from lakes require large financial costs ...
Therefore, it remains to attract public attention to the lakes of the Caucasus, and then everything else!

Aleksandr Vladimirovich, Thank you so much for the interview and for such sincere answers! Let everything work out, argue, continue to succeed!
I believe that the Teberda Nature Reserve and its researchers have become a little closer to everyone who has read this post! For example, I can’t imagine what it’s like to melt the snow to drink water ... Eh, a real traveler will not come out of me!)))))))

I invite all regular readers and guests of the blog to show their geopatriotism! It's easy - go to award site, choose your region, learn about the projects presented for the award, and give your favorite project your unique voice! By the way, do it you can every day! It depends ... how much geopatriotism "leaps out" in you))))))))

And I invite the inhabitants of our region vote for the project of Alexander Vladimirovich Belousov"The current state of the lakes of the Teberda nature reserve and adjacent territories".

Let's be real geopatriots!
Let's support the participants of the National Award "Crystal Compass"!

P.S. Do you consider yourself a geopatriot?

Project:"Western Caucasus - a mountainous country of a thousand lakes"

Nomination:Best Regional Project

Expeditionary Center of the Krasnodar Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, Teberda State Biosphere Reserve and Caucasian State Biosphere Reserve.

Project manager: Belousov Alexander Vladimirovich

Nomination:

Best Regional Project

Name of the project:

Western Caucasus - a mountainous country of a thousand lakes

Project Description:

A multi-stage research expedition project, the purpose of which is to popularize the unique natural objects of the Caucasus, to obtain data on the current state and dynamics of the lakes of the Western Caucasus, taking into account global climate changes and large-scale anthropogenic transformations of alpine landscapes.

"The Western Caucasus - a mountainous country of a thousand lakes" is a project of the Expeditionary Center of the Krasnodar Regional Branch of the All-Russian Public Organization "RUSSIAN GEOGRAPHIC SOCIETY" carried out jointly with the Teberda and Caucasian state natural biosphere reserves.

1st stage of the 2011 project "Abishira-Akhuba Ridge - Lake Province" and the 2nd stage of the 2012-2016 project "Russia is a reserved. Lakes - Mountain Pearls of the Teberda Nature Reserve ”have been finally implemented on the territory of the Teberda Nature Reserve and adjacent territories (Abishira-Akhuba ridge).

The 2nd stage (2012-2016) of the project, covering the territory of the Teberda Nature Reserve, is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the protected system of Russia. By Decree No. 392 of the President of Russia, 2017 was declared both the Year of Ecology and the Year of Specially Protected Natural Areas.

The 2016 expedition was carried out in the upper reaches of the Oruchat and Goralykol rivers (the Teberda river basin) dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Teberda State Nature Biosphere Reserve and the 70th anniversary of the Krasnodar Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society.

Mountain lakes are an integral part of the landscape of the Western Caucasus. Lakes are widespread in the study area, some of which are little studied and little visited. According to the latest data, more than 1070 lakes are concentrated in the territory from Fisht to Elbrus. The Western Caucasus is truly a country of a thousand mountain lakes.

Over the past 20 years, field work related to the study of lakes has not actually been carried out, with the exception of short-term visits to individual water bodies. Without systematic observations, which are possible only in the "field", it is impossible to imagine a real picture of the dynamics of mountain lakes under conditions global change climate, activation of glacial processes and strengthening of recreational activities. In 2011, studies of the lakes of the Western Caucasus were resumed.

The increased interest in glacial lakes is caused by an increase in the intensity of exogenous processes in the nival-glacial belt, namely, natural disasters that have become more frequent in the last decade.

In addition, there is currently a problem in the world with clean drinking water. Therefore, it is necessary to account for and hydrochemical studies of each reservoir - a source of clean drinking water.

In light of what is happening in recent times political events, the project is intended to draw public attention to Russian recreational facilities and contribute to the development of ecological tourism in the region.

In the period 2011-2016, six field expedition seasons took place, as a result of which a comprehensive survey of most of the lakes of the Abishir-Akhuba ridge, as well as 63 lakes of the Teberda reserve (46.32% of the total lakes of the river basin Teberda). At the moment, data on 100 lakes of the basins of the Urup, Kyafar (Abishira-Akhuba ridge), Malaya Marka (Aksaut river basin), Mukhu, Azgek, reserve).

The main result of the implementation of the 1st and 2nd stages of the project is the scientific monograph "Lakes of the Teberda Reserve and Adjacent Areas (Ecological and Recreational Aspects)" written by the specialists of the Krasnodar Regional Branch of the All-Russian Public Organization "RUSSIAN GEOGRAPHIC SOCIETY" together with the Teberda Reserve.

In addition, on the basis of the collected data, an environmental assessment of the state of lake reservoirs is carried out, and recommendations are developed where possible recreational use lakes.

The results of each expedition will be widely covered in the media in order to popularize the unique natural heritage of Russia, to attract the attention of the Russian public to the lakes of the Western Caucasus, as well as to specially protected natural areas.

In the next stages of the project, it is planned to conduct several expeditions on the territory of the Caucasian State Natural Biosphere Reserve, as well as in the little-explored area of \u200b\u200bthe Mysty-Bashi ridge (between the rivers Marukh and Aksauta).

Expeditionary surveys of lakes are carried out in hard-to-reach regions of the Western Caucasus, where there are no paths and stationary places for living. Movement along the route was carried out on foot, overcoming natural obstacles: passes, river fords. The expedition teams include specialists from the project partners.
