The size of the corps of the Russian army. How many people are in a company, battalion, platoon, and so on. Aerospace Defense Troops

Branch

AT Russian army a squad is the smallest military formation with a full-time commander. The squad is commanded by a junior sergeant or sergeant. Usually there are 9-13 people in a motorized rifle department. In the departments of other branches of the military, the number of personnel of the department is from 3 to 15 people. In some branches of the military, the department is called differently.
In artillery - calculation, in armored forces - the crew. Usually a squad is part of a platoon.

Platoon

Several squads make up a platoon. Usually there are 2 to 4 squads in a platoon, but more are possible. The platoon is headed by a commander with an officer rank. In the Russian army, this is a junior lieutenant, lieutenant or senior lieutenant. On average, the number of platoon personnel ranges from 9 to 45 people. Usually in all branches of the military, the name is the same - platoon. As a rule, a platoon is part of a company, but it can also exist independently.

Company

Several platoons make up a company. Usually a company consists of 2-4 platoons, sometimes even more platoons. The company is the smallest formation with a tactical value *, i.e. formation capable of independently performing small tactical tasks on the battlefield. The company commander is a captain. The average size of a company can be from 18 to 200 people. Motorized rifle companies are usually about 130-150 men, tank companies 30-35 men. Usually a company is part of a battalion, but companies often exist as independent formations. In artillery, this type of formation is called a battery.

Battalion

Consists of several companies (usually 2-4) and several platoons not included in any of the companies. The battalion is one of the main tactical formations *. A battalion, like a company, a platoon, or a squad is named after its type of troops (tank, motorized rifle, engineer-sapper, communications). But the battalion already includes formations of other types of weapons. For example, in a motorized rifle battalion, in addition to motorized rifle companies, there is a mortar battery, a platoon material support, communications platoon. The battalion commander is a lieutenant colonel. The battalion already has its own headquarters. Usually, the average battalion, depending on the type of troops, can number from 250 to 950 people. However, there are battalions of about 100 men. In artillery, this type of formation is called a division.

Regiment

In the Russian army, this is the main tactical formation * and is completely autonomous in the economic sense of the formation. The regiment is commanded by a colonel. Although the regiments are named according to the type of troops (tank, motorized rifle, communications, pontoon-bridge, etc.), in fact, this is a formation consisting of subunits of many types of troops, and the name is given according to the prevailing type of troops. For example, in a motorized rifle regiment, there are two or three motorized rifle battalions, one tank battalion, one artillery battalion, one anti-aircraft missile battalion, a reconnaissance company, an engineer-engineer company, a communications company, an anti-tank battery, a chemical defense platoon, a repair company, a logistics company, orchestra, medical center. The number of the regiment's personnel is from 900 to 2000 people.

Brigade

As well as the regiment, it is the main tactical formation *. Actually, the brigade occupies an intermediate position between the regiment and the division. The structure of the brigade is often the same as that of the regiment, but there are much more battalions and other units in the brigade. So in a motorized rifle brigade, motorized rifle and tank battalions are one and a half to two times more than in a regiment. A brigade can also consist of two regiments, plus battalions and auxiliary companies. On average, the brigade has from 2 to 8 thousand people. The brigade commander is a colonel.

Division

The main operational-tactical formation *. As well as the regiment is named according to the dominant branch of the army. However, the predominance of this or that kind of troops is much less than in the regiment. A motorized rifle division and a tank division are identical in structure with the only difference that in a motorized rifle division there are two or three motorized rifle regiments and one tank, and in a tank division, on the contrary, there are two or three tank regiments, and one motorized rifle. In addition to these main regiments, the division has one or two artillery regiments, one anti-aircraft missile regiment, a rocket battalion, a missile division, a helicopter squadron, an engineer battalion, a communications battalion, an automobile battalion, a reconnaissance battalion, an electronic warfare battalion, a logistics battalion. a repair and recovery battalion, a health battalion, a chemical defense company, and several different companies and auxiliary platoons. In the modern Russian Army, there are or may be tank, motorized rifle, artillery, airborne, missile and aviation divisions. In other types of troops, as a rule, the highest formation is a regiment or brigade. On average, a division has 12-24 thousand people. Division Commander Major General. At the present time, after the reorganization of the Russian army, divisions are reduced and formed on their basis - the so-called reinforced brigades of a new appearance.

Army

The army is a large operational military formation *. The army includes divisions, regiments, battalions of all types of troops. Typically, armies are no longer subdivided by type of service, although there may be tank armies dominated by tank divisions. An army may also have one or more corps. It is impossible to speak about the structure and size of the army, because as many armies exist or have existed, so many of their structures existed. A soldier at the head of an army is no longer called a "commander" but "an army commander". The usual rank of army commander is Colonel General.

County

This is the highest military formation of a strategic type *. Larger formations do not exist. In wartime, a front is formed on the basis of the district. The district includes several armies, corps, divisions, regiments, battalions of all types of troops. The composition and size of the district may vary. Districts are never subdivided according to the type of troops (i.e., there can be no tank district, artillery district, etc.). The district is headed by the district commander with the rank of army general.

Above in the text, there are the concepts of "tactical formation", "operational - tactical formation", "strategic ..", etc. These terms indicate the range of tasks solved by this formation in the light of the art of war. The art of war is divided into three levels:

1. Tactics (the art of fighting). Squad, platoon, company, battalion, regiment solve tactical tasks, i.e. are fighting.
2. Operational art (the art of conducting a battle, battle). Division, corps, army solve operational tasks, i.e. are fighting a battle.
3.Strategy (the art of waging war in general). The front solves both operational and strategic tasks, i.e. leads major battles, as a result of which the strategic situation changes and the outcome of the war can be decided

Subdivision

This word designates all military formations that make up the unit. Squad, platoon, company, battalion - all of them are united by one word "subdivision". The word comes from the concept of division, divide. Those. part is divided into divisions.

Part

It is the main unit of the armed forces. The term "unit" most often means a regiment and a brigade. The external signs of the unit are: the presence of its own office work, military economy, a bank account, postal and telegraphic address, its own official stamp, the commander's right to give written orders, open (44th training tank division) and closed (military unit 08728) combined-arms numbers. That is, the part has sufficient autonomy. The Battle Banner is optional for the unit. In addition to the regiment and brigade, divisional headquarters, corps headquarters, army headquarters, district headquarters, and other military organizations are also parts.
* terms military unit and military unit do not mean exactly the same thing. The term "military unit" is used as a general designation, without specifics. If we are talking about a specific regiment, brigade, etc., then the term "military unit" is used. Usually, its number is also mentioned: "military unit 74292" (but you cannot use "military unit 74292") or, in short, military unit 74292.

How many people are there in different military units? Not everyone will be able to answer a similar question straight away. However, each tactical unit has a well-defined number, and this should be borne in mind.

When going to serve, a young man should study in advance, at least in passing. After all, then it will be much easier for him in the service. And such basic things as the number of people in a platoon, for example, or in a squad, are just included in the list of necessary knowledge.

Basic order: how many people are in the basic units of the army?

Even an ordinary private must understand and understand how many people are in army units up to about a regiment. Larger-scale concepts, such as a brigade, for example, or a division, have to be manipulated much less often. But nevertheless, it is not superfluous to understand what the corps, the army, and even the military district are also. However, let's start with the basics.

So how many people are in branch - everyone should know. After all, the department consists of 5-10 people. It is under the command of a sergeant as squad leader. A junior sergeant can also lead it.

Further - platoonwhich can combine 3-6 divisions. By the total it consists of 15 to 60 fighters. The commander usually becomes a lieutenant or captain, that is, officers are already at the head of such a unit.

Company has 3-6 platoons, with a strength of 45-360 military personnel. The commander is the major. In practice, the company usually becomes a captain or even a senior who has successfully started a military career. And 3 or 4 companies is already battalion... It also includes:

  • Headquarters;
  • A certain list of specialists - communications, for example, and so on;
  • Sometimes - mortar, air defense.

In total, the number of this unit can be 145-500 people. The battalion commander should be a colonel, but in practice, the position is sometimes transferred to majors, captains.

Regiment - these are 3-6 battalions, that is, from 500 to 2500 and more people. After all, here in the state there is also artillery, air defense, PTB. Colonels, lieutenant colonels are considered as the command.

Largest units

The brigade consists of 1-4 thousand personnel, representing a number of battalions, sometimes - 2 or 3 regiments. She is also in the command of the colonel.

Several regiments can be combined into division, which also often includes artillery, air defense, aviation, logistic services. The command of a division may fall on the shoulders of a colonel or a major general. The number is about 4500-22000 people.

Several divisions form bodywith up to 100,000 members. The corps is under the command of a major general.

Further - army, which includes 2-10 divisions belonging to different types of troops. Its size varies greatly, from 200,000 to 1 million or more. It is under the command of the general staff, representing an object of a high degree of responsibility.

Front - this is the concept of wartime, in days of peace it is called a district. Here the numbers can be even more vague. Much depends on the specific situation, the specifics of the region, and so on. If we talk about the front, here the concept includes our own schools, warehouses, reserves, and so on. Commanding such units is the task of lieutenant generals or army generals.

As a rule, one front has command and control and 1-2 missile armies, as well as 5-6 armies, 1-2 tank armies... Maybe an air defense army, 1-2 air armies, special types of troops, rear units and institutions. There is a possibility of strengthening the front according to the situation - by various units of the Armed Forces, the reserve that the Supreme Command has.

Other tactical terms used in the professional army environment

There are other terms that imply a certain number of soldiers. So, there is a concept subdivision, including various formations that are part of the military unit. Thus, a platoon or company, as well as a squad or battalion, are all subunits. That is, the part is divided into similar elements, hence the term originated.

As for the parts - this unit can be considered the most popular. As a rule, this concept means a brigade or regiment that has its own:

  • Military economy;
  • Combat unit;
  • Address;
  • Current account;
  • Seal and number, both open and closed;
  • The right of command to give written orders.

So a part is enough autonomous education, which is based on a certain territory.

It should be borne in mind that a military unit and a military unit are somewhat different things.

So, a military unit is not a specific, general designation. However, if we talk about a specific brigade, for example, it is necessary to use the term military unit. The same applies to the situation when the number is indicated - in this case, the military unit is also said. In addition, there is a written designation of the military unit, which is used as an official abbreviation.

Further - the term compound... It can only mean a division, because it involves the unification of parts. At the same time, the divisional headquarters is, according to the status, a part. He has subordinate regiments - other units. Together they make up a division. However, sometimes a brigade also becomes a compound - if it includes separate companies or battalions that have the status of separate units.

Another important term is union... Here everything can be considered as in the previous case, only on a more significant scale. The union will already include armies, corps, and districts. There is also a headquarters in the form of a unit and a number of other formations that form the general composition.

Instead of a conclusion

It should be pointed out right away that there are no other official concepts in this category. These tactical units are generally accepted and are relevant to the Ground Forces. At the same time, it should be noted that the fleet and aviation have certain differences in this regard. They have their own hierarchy and there are other tactical units that are relevant in connection with the conditions that are present in these directions. Here there is the concept of a link and some others that allow you to streamline the actions of the commanders of individual crews, for example.

In general, a hierarchy and strict order of tactical units are necessary to maintain the combat capability of an army. Indeed, the basis of the success of her actions is always discipline and order, subordination. Without these key foundations, its very existence would be impossible.

It should be borne in mind that the number of different tactical units can vary greatly in peacetime and wartime. So, in a quiet period, these units can represent a kind of backbone, staffed to a minimum. However, at the moment of need, with the intensification of the activities of the military commissariat and in conditions of mass conscription of people from the reserve, they can grow significantly, reaching their maximum indicator in terms of numerical strength. This property allows you to maintain defenses and quickly respond to any threat from the outside, increasing the number if necessary in a matter of days.

The company depends on the type of troops, so there are 60-101 people in a motorized rifle company; builders up to 250 people; Airborne Forces up to 80 people; tankers from 31 to 41 people. Motorized rifle company:

  • Defense: 1 ... 1.5 km along the front up to 1 km in depth
  • Offensive: 0.5 ... 1 km

Battalion. This is either 3 or 4 companies + headquarters and individual specialists (gunsmith, signalman, snipers, etc.), a mortar platoon (not always), sometimes - air defense and tank destroyers (hereinafter - PTB). The battalion includes from 145 to 500 people. Commander of the battalion commander (abbreviated - battalion commander). This is the post of lieutenant colonel. But in our country, both captains and majors are in command, who in the future may become lieutenant colonels, provided that this post remains.

How many people are in a company, battalion, platoon, and so on

Platoon. The platoon includes from 3 to 6 squads, that is, it can reach from 15 to 60 people. The platoon commander is in charge. This is already an officer's position. It is occupied by a minimum of a lieutenant, a maximum - a captain. Company.

The company includes from 3 to 6 platoons, that is, it can consist of 45 to 360 people. The company commander is in command. This is a major position. In fact, the command is a senior lieutenant or captain (in the army the company commander is called affectionately and abbreviated as company commander).

The structure of the armed forces

From two to ten divisions of different types of troops + rear units + repair shops and so on. The number can be very different. On average, from 200,000 to 1,000,000 people and more. The army is commanded by a major general or a lieutenant general.

Front. AT peaceful time - military district. It is already difficult to give exact numbers here. They vary from region, military doctrine, political environment, and the like. The front is already a self-sufficient structure with reserves, warehouses, training units, military schools, and so on.

The front commander is in command. This is a lieutenant general or army general. The composition of the front depends on the tasks set and the situation.

Company, division, battalion: strength

  • Brigades are a separate unit. According to their position, the brigades stand between the regiment (regiment commander - colonel) and division (division commander - major general). In most armies of the world, between the ranks of colonel and major general, there is an intermediate rank of "brigadier general", corresponding to the brigade commander (and during the Second World War the Waffen-SS had the rank of "oberführer"). Traditionally, there is no such title in Russia. In the modern Russian army, the Soviet division of the military district - corps - division - regiment - battalion, as a rule, is replaced by the reduced military district - brigade - battalion.
  • Different levels [edit | edit code] armed forces In Russia, the units referred to in this article are divided into subunits (from squad to battalion), units (from a separate company to a regiment), formations (brigade, division, corps) and formations (army, district, group of forces, front).

Military ranks of the Russian Federation

From the brigade and above (by the number of people) for 11 months of service, we did not even speak. Perhaps this is due to the fact that I serve not in a military unit, but in an educational institution. How many people do they include? Branch. Depending on the type of troops, it numbers from 5 to 10 people.
The squad leader is the squad leader. A squad leader is a sergeant's position, and therefore a chest of drawers (short for squad leader) is often a junior sergeant or sergeant. The squad is named according to its type of troops (tank, motorized rifle, engineer-sapper, communications) In a motorized rifle squad, approximately from 9 to 13 people (in addition to the squad leader: grenade launcher, private with RPG-7, PM; shooter-assistant to grenade launcher, private with AK74; machine gunner, private with RPK74; senior gunner, corporal with AK74; 3 ... 5 gunners, privates with AK74; mechanic driver of BMP and gunner-operator \\ machine gunner of BMP \\ BMP).

The number of military units in the Russian Federation

Attention

Accordingly, separate battalions can be allocated, each of which is an independent military unit, or even separate companies. Also, each regiment can be part of a division, or (at a higher level) be immediately subordinate to the command of the corps ("regiment of corps subordination"), or, at an even higher level, the regiment can subordinate directly to the command of the military district ("regiment of district subordination");

  • In an infantry regiment, the main units - infantry battalions - report directly to the regiment commander. All auxiliary units are already subordinate to his deputies.

The same system is repeated at all levels. For example, for an artillery regiment of district subordination, the chief will not be the commander of the district troops, but the chief of the district artillery.

The hierarchy of military formations

The battalions are different, so it is impossible to accurately answer how many there are, for example, the BMP on the BTR-80 has 530 people, and on the BMP-2 - 498 people; PDB - 360-400 people, and for DShB - 450-530 people; OBMP and ODSHB approximately 650-700 people; TB on T-72 - 174 people, and motorized rifle - 213 people; OBS - 200-250 people; reconnaissance battalion of about 600 people; OISB - about 300 people; doctors - 157 people; chemists, repairmen, builders, commandants, as well as for the maintenance of airfields do not have a staffing table at all and are formed depending on the need for a Motorized Rifle Battalion:

  • Defense: 3 ... 5 km along the front and 2 ... 2.5 km in depth
  • Offensive: 1 ... 2 km

Regiment. From 3 to 6 battalions, that is, from 500 to 2500+ people + headquarters + regimental artillery + air defense + PTB. The regiment is commanded by a colonel. But it can also be a lieutenant colonel.

The term "unit" most often refers to a regiment and a brigade. IMPORTANT! Please note that the terms military unit and military unit do not mean exactly the same thing.

The term "military unit" is used as a general designation, without specifics. If we are talking about a specific regiment, brigade, and so on, then the term "military unit" is used. Usually, its number is also mentioned: "military unit 74292" (but you cannot use "military unit 74292") or, in short, military unit 74292.

Compound.
This is if the regiment is not part of a division, but is directly part of the army (corps, district, front). For example, 120 separate regiment of guards mortars. Note 3: Please note that the terms military unit and military unit do not mean exactly the same thing. The term "military unit" is used as a general designation, without specifics.

Info

If we are talking about a specific regiment, brigade, etc., then the term "military unit" is used. Usually, its number is mentioned next: "military unit 74292" (but you cannot use "military unit 74292") or, in short, military unit 74292. Formation. By default, this term only fits the division.

The very word "connection" means - to connect the parts. The division headquarters has the status of a unit. Other parts (regiments) are subordinate to this unit (headquarters). All this together is the division. However, in some cases, a brigade may also have a connection status.
This formation is led by a full-time commander with the rank of junior sergeant or sergeant. Among the military, the term "chest of drawers" is used, which in short means "squad leader". Depending on the type of troops, the units are called differently... For artillery, the term “crew” is used, and for tank forces, “crew”. The composition of the unit As part of this formation, the service is carried out from 5 to 10 people. However, a motorized rifle squad consists of 10-13 soldiers.

Unlike the Russian army, in the United States, the group is considered the smallest army formation. The US unit itself consists of two groups. Platoon In the Russian Armed Forces, a platoon consists of three to four squads. More of them are not excluded. The number of personnel is 45 people.

The leadership of this military formation is carried out by a junior lieutenant, lieutenant or senior lieutenant.

Military formations from a military unit and above have the status of a legal entity. In civil law relations, they act as organizations in the organizational and legal form of federal government institutions. Military formations have seals with the reproduction of the State Emblem Russian Federation and by their conventional and valid names, seals, stamps, letterheads, personal and other accounts in the territorial bodies of the federal treasury necessary for the implementation of their activities. For military formations in order to ensure their activities in the prescribed manner are assigned to the operational management of buildings, structures, premises, equipment, equipment, weapons, inventory and other material necessary for the implementation of activities. Land plots are provided to military units for gratuitous perpetual use. Military units conclude and execute civil contracts and agreements.

Information about the locations of deployment of military formations, the staff and payroll number of personnel, the personnel status, the presence and technical condition weapons, military equipment, other materiel and other information constitute a state secret.

Name of the military formation

Military formations have real and conventional names.

The conventional name includes the phrase "military unit" and its four-digit numeric designation (for example: "military unit No. 12345"). If in the text it is necessary to refer to a military unit without specifying a number, then the phrase "military unit" is used.

The actual name consists of a combined arms number, a staff name, honorary titles (if they are assigned) and the names of state awards (if the military formation has been awarded an order (s)) (for example: 1234 Guards Arkharinsky Order of Lenin Red Banner Separate Tank Regiment).

In unclassified documents, as a rule, conditional names of military formations are used, with the exception of documents of a congratulatory nature, and documents in which it is necessary to emphasize the special status of a military formation, its history, tasks and merits.

Battle banner of the military formation

Framed (skimmed) part (s.) - a military formation, contained in peacetime on a reduced peacetime staff as an organizational and material base for deployment when announcing mobilization in a wartime state. Armament, military equipment and other materiel in cropped part are usually kept in a state of conservation by wartime staff. Usually a peacetime regiment forms a wartime state brigade.

Air force unit, military unit - a separate aviation link, a separate aviation detachment, a separate aviation squadron, an aviation base, an aviation regiment, an aviation equipment display center, a test center, an aviation training center, a flight test station of a military mission or an aviation repair plant, a united aviation detachment, an aviation sports organization ROSTO ( DOSAAF).

Training unit, military unit - a military formation (brigade, regiment, battalion, company), intended for the training and additional training of military personnel who are doing military service under conscription and under contract under training programs. Branch

In the Soviet and Russian armies, a squad is the smallest military formation with a full-time commander. The squad is commanded by a junior sergeant or sergeant. Usually there are 9-13 people in a motorized rifle department. In the departments of other branches of the military, the number of personnel of the department is from 3 to 15 people. In some branches of the military, the department is called differently. In the artillery - the crew, in the tank forces - the crew.

Platoon

Several squads make up a platoon. Usually there are 2 to 4 squads in a platoon, but more are possible. The platoon is headed by a commander with an officer rank. In the Soviet and Russian army, this is ml. lieutenant, lieutenant or art. lieutenant. On average, the number of platoon personnel ranges from 9 to 45 people. Usually in all branches of the military, the name is the same - platoon. Usually a platoon is part of a company, but it can also exist independently.

Company

Several platoons make up a company. In addition, a company may include several independent units that are not included in any of the platoons. For example, a motorized rifle company has three motorized rifle platoons, a machine gun squad, and an anti-tank squad. Usually a company consists of 2-4 platoons, sometimes even more platoons. A company is the smallest formation that has tactical value, that is, a formation capable of independently performing small tactical tasks on the battlefield. The company commander is captain. On average, the size of a company can be from 18 to 200 people. Motorized rifle companies are usually about 130-150 men, tank companies 30-35 men. Usually a company is part of a battalion, but companies often exist as independent formations. In artillery, a formation of this type is called a battery, in a cavalry squadron.

Battalion

Consists of several companies (usually 2-4) and several platoons not included in any of the companies. The battalion is one of the main tactical formations. A battalion, like a company, a platoon, or a squad is named after its type of troops (tank, motorized rifle, engineer-sapper, communications). But the battalion already includes formations of other types of weapons. For example, in a motorized rifle battalion, in addition to motorized rifle companies, there is a mortar battery, a material support platoon, and a communications platoon. The battalion commander is a lieutenant colonel. The battalion already has its own headquarters. Usually, the average battalion, depending on the type of troops, can number from 250 to 950 people. However, there are battalions of about 100 men. In artillery, this type of formation is called a division.

Regiment

In the Soviet and Russian armies, this is the main tactical formation and a completely autonomous formation in the economic sense. The regiment is commanded by a colonel. Although the regiments are named according to the type of troops, in fact it is a formation consisting of units of many types of troops, and the name is given according to the prevailing type of troops. The number of the regiment's personnel is from 900 to 2000 people.

Brigade

As well as the regiment, it is the main tactical formation. Actually, the brigade occupies an intermediate position between the regiment and the division. A brigade can also consist of two regiments, plus battalions and auxiliary companies. On average, the brigade has from 2 to 8 thousand people. The brigade commander, as well as in the regiment, is a colonel.

Division

The main operational-tactical formation. As well as the regiment is named according to the dominant branch of the army. However, the predominance of this or that kind of troops is much less than in the regiment. On average, a division has 12-24 thousand people. Division Commander Major General.

Housing

Just as a brigade is an intermediate formation between a regiment and a division, so a corps is an intermediate formation between a division and an army. The corps is already a combined-arms formation, that is, it usually lacks the attribute of one type of troops. It is impossible to talk about the structure and size of the corps, because as many corps exist or have existed, so many of their structures existed. Corps Commander Lieutenant General.
