This trimmer will quickly be reworked, since it has no water cooling, but only air cooling !!! Judge for yourself soon he will have a karachun !!!

Artem comments:

What about a fig? The trimmer plows the whole day without problems, he mowed 40 hectares with it (he got tired). And such alterations in Ukraine are chased for nothing - they die of wear, but are restored with overhaul with rings.

Valera comments:

here the screwdriver will rather screw up, since it is not intended for long-term operation and heats up very quickly

Unlike ancient times, when it was possible to hope for a tailwind to appear only by relying on the forces of nature, today you can move on the surface of the water in any direction without significant physical effort and in complete calm.

Thanks to the scientists who obtained electricity for mankind and tamed the fire of an internal combustion engine, any boatman can independently attach some kind of motor to his floating craft.

What can you make a boat motor from?

A boat motor can be made from many mechanisms that collect dust in a barn or garage and are not used for their intended purpose.

It often happens that equipment breaks down, and in order to repair it, you need to spend more than half the cost of a new device. In this case, it is much easier to purchase a new device, and put the old one aside and use it as a source of spare parts and various bolts and nuts. It is from such devices that a boat motor can be made.

If such devices are not available, then such a mechanism can be inexpensively purchased on the secondary market. The main thing is that the engine is in good working order in such devices.

Outboard motor from trimmer

By minimally changing the trimmer design, you can arrange an excellent traction unit for a boat of any design. The engine and transmission in such a device already exist, it is enough to make a mount for the boat, and instead of a bobbin with a fishing line or a disc, install a propeller.

Before making a boat motor from a trimmer, it should be understood that the power of such devices is very low, and it is unlikely that it will be possible to move against a strong current.

The trimmer as a boat motor is ideal for use on a lake or pond.

The disadvantages of using this device include a high noise level. In addition, at a low speed of movement, you will have to breathe absolutely all products of the "vital activity" of this system.

Outboard motor from a screwdriver

Outboard motors on electric traction have excellent performance in terms of noise production and environmental friendliness. You can make a motor for a boat from a screwdriver, but the power of the device should not be less than 300 watts. A flexible shaft from the trimmer can be used to transfer torque to the underwater screw.

A small aluminum propeller from a car fan is used as a propeller, and car batteries with a capacity of 60 A / h are used to ensure a long operating time of such a device.

The disadvantage of such designs is the need to carry a fully charged car battery with you. The mass of such a part is more than 20 kg.... The disadvantages include the limited stroke of such a motor; after the battery is discharged, it will be necessary to manually set the boat in motion again.

Boat motor from a walk-behind tractor

The most powerful of the home-made boat motors is considered to be a device made from a walk-behind tractor. The equipment for the processing of the personal plot is equipped with robust and durable four-stroke internal combustion engines, which, when installed on a watercraft,

will allow him to develop a decent speed both downstream and against it. Such engines are heavy and usually not used on PVC boats.

The easiest way to install a boat motor of this design is to make minimal changes to the main structure. It is enough to attach a walk-behind tractor to the hull of the boat, and install aluminum blades instead of cutters. The blades must be located in the same plane with the shaft, which in this case is located perpendicular to the movement of the floating craft. The blades have the form of rectangular plates, which with the lower half must be lowered into the water, and the upper part must move freely through the air. Such a paddle wheel arrangement will allow you to move at high speed even in places where the depth does not exceed half a meter. A boat engine made of a motor-block with a fast current does an excellent job.

Other options

You can make a homemade engine not only using trimmers and screwdrivers as a basis. If there is a desire to design a boat motor independently and there is a significant margin of time and money, then any technical device equipped with an internal combustion engine or driven by an electric motor can be used as a power unit.

Many craftsmen put motorcycle engines on the boat. In this case, it is possible to adjust the propeller speed by shifting the gearbox. Powerful 12-volt motors, which are used in various mechanisms, can be successfully used as boat engines.

Do-it-yourself boat motor

Making a boat motor is not difficult at all - it is enough to prepare all the necessary parts for this and assemble the device in such a way as to exclude the possibility of damage to the boat during the operation of such a unit, and to ensure safety for people.

The easiest way to make a homemade motor from a trimmer. For assembly, you will need the following materials and tools:

  1. Trimmer.
  2. Spanners.
  3. Pliers.
  4. Screwdriver.
  5. Grinder or hacksaw for metal.
  6. Drill and twist drills for metal.
  7. Hairpin 12 mm.
  8. Vice.

To manufacture a working version of the outboard motor, you will need to purchase a trimmer. Any model can be used, but the more powerful the device, the higher the speed characteristics of the boat.

Making a propeller is the first place to start. A duralumin plate with a size of 100 - 30 mm is used for the screw. Exactly in the middle of such a plate, a hole must be made to install it on the trimmer shaft. The bore diameter depends on the thickness of the gearbox shaft and is usually 17 mm. Before bending the duralumin plate, it must be annealed. Then, each side is slightly bent with pliers so that, with axial rotation of such a plate, its step is no more than 10 mm.

Then the reel is removed from the mower and a screw is installed in its place. It is necessary to tighten the nut well so that the screw does not turn during operation. The trimmer discs are fixed with a left-hand threaded nut, so when the outboard motor is running, there is no need to fear loss of the propeller due to unscrewing the nut.

Then you need to make reliable fasteners with which the trimmer will be installed on the boat. On the trimmer body, at the junction of the two halves, there is a ring for attaching a belt. It is this part that will connect the trimmer body to the boat. It is necessary to make a mount that will reliably connect the hull of the boat with the trim tab "ear". For this purpose, you can use a mechanical meat grinder, in which the lower part is separated with the help of a grinder or a hacksaw for metal. Then a 12 mm hole is made in the body of the resulting clamp. The hole must be in the transverse plane of the screw clamp.

A piece with a length of 100 mm must be cut from a metal rod with a diameter of 12 mm. On one side, this section of the pin is slightly flattened and a hole with a diameter of 6 mm is made in it. A 6 mm bolt is threaded into this hole, onto which the trimmer "eye" is installed. The bolt must be tightened with a self-locking nut.

The process of installing the motor on the boat takes place in the following sequence:

  • the mount is installed on the transom and is securely fixed using a threaded connection;
  • a homemade boat motor is installed in the mounting hole.

The motor can be started and steered by keeping the hull of the outboard motor straight, and if necessary, tilt it in the opposite direction of the boat's turn.

Gearbox and its effect on work

The use of a gearbox for a boat motor allows you to change the direction of axial rotation. The gearbox changes the shaft rotation speed several times, which has a positive effect on the engine's working life. When equipped with a gearbox for a boat motor, you should adhere to the golden mean and do not install a device with a large gear ratio. Failure to do so will result in excessive fuel consumption, low boat speed and engine overheating. The safest way to install a gearbox with the optimum gear ratio for a given motor is to test several different devices. If during operation there will be no excessive load, which manifests itself in the impossibility of a rapid set of high revolutions and the speed of movement of the floating craft will be quite high, then this gear ratio can be considered optimal for this engine.

The average gear ratio that will work well with many combustion engines used as outboard motors is 1/5.

Electric motors for boats can be used without a gearbox. The pulling force of such devices is sufficient to work stably in the mode of direct transmission of torque to the propeller. An excellent engineering solution is the use of an electric motor under water. With this arrangement, the screw is attached directly to the motor shaft.

Homemade motor with gearbox

It is not easy to make a motor with a gearbox on your own, but such a design will allow you to change the boat speed and change the thrust characteristics of the propeller. This design is convenient for trolling fishing, in addition, shifting to a lower gear will allow the boat to move more efficiently against strong winds and under significant load.

The most compact version of the engine, which can be made independently, is a device in which a two-stroke engine from a Karpaty moped is used as a power unit. Such a device will have only two speeds, but this is quite enough.

The engine is mounted on a self-made frame, which is a cut off part of the moped frame. The right cover and the drive sprocket are removed, and a small gearbox is attached to the shaft, to which a standard "leg" from the "Whirlwind" outboard motor is then attached, through which the torque is transmitted. All parts must be installed in such a way that the structure is as balanced as possible, otherwise a noticeable skew will be felt during movement, and when using such an engine with a PVC boat, the floating craft may overturn. The control handle for such a device must be at least 0.5 in length, otherwise, while driving the boat, you can get burns from the hot engine and the knee of the muffler.

The advantages of such a boat motor are very quiet operation, low fuel consumption and the ability to downshift when needed.

The presence of an engine on a boat makes life much easier for its owner. However, gasoline engines make a lot of noise and consume a lot of resources. An alternative to this type of driving force is electric motors. These are quiet units that run on cheap electricity and are slightly inferior to gasoline boat engines in terms of travel efficiency. This version of the engine will be cheaper, especially since you can make an electric motor for a boat with your own hands.

The name "electric motor" contains the essence of the device that it designates. An electric motor for boats is a unit that propels a boat through the movement of the blades. Its action is based on physical laws. A feature of electric motors is the resource that they consume to perform their functions.

Today, fuel-powered boat motors are common throughout the world. An electric motor for a boat, unlike similar units, works by consuming electricity, not gasoline. There is a widespread belief among some boat owners that such devices are ineffective. However, it is wrong. With the correct design, an electric motor can provide sufficient traction to move the boat through the water at normal speed.

In addition, a homemade engine has a number of advantages, for example:

  1. The ultimate cost of building such a device would be well below the market value of factory gasoline and electric motors.
  2. The country's environmental legislation strictly regulates the use of electric motors for boats. These rules do not apply to self-made units.
  3. The device operates with little or no noise. This feature will be especially useful for fishermen, because any loud sounds can frighten off a potential catch.
  4. Electricity is cheaper than fuels. In addition, devices equipped with internal combustion engines consume incomparably more resources than home-made electric motors.
  5. The boat owner has the opportunity to independently select the power of the unit suitable for him. The basis of a homemade motor is a drill or other device. The characteristics of the future engine depend on their power. Which device the master chooses, such will be the indicators of the electric motor.

Making a homemade electric motor is pretty simple. It is enough to follow the instructions clearly. However, you will need certain materials and tools. There shouldn't be any problems with accessing them. Most of the necessary tools are already in stock at any owner. All materials can be found freely available in retail outlets. It is not difficult to find the drawings necessary for the work.

Materials and tools

When choosing equipment, you need to pay attention to two things: power and voltage. These parameters are fundamental, and the quality of the finished electric motor depends on them. The power depends on the selected drill (in this case, this particular tool is taken as the basis), therefore, first of all, you need to select this equipment.

When choosing a drill, you need to focus on its power. This indicator must exceed one hundred and fifty watts. It is not worth taking a tool with lower characteristics. In this case, the finished device will not work effectively in moving water (that is, it will not work with such a unit on the river). It is best to use a cordless rotary hammer.

The hammer drill is equipped with a reverse, has several operating modes. This circumstance is important for the motor that will move the floating vehicle, since it will allow in the future to control the speed of the electric motor.

The second important parameter is voltage. Do not use eighteen volt batteries. They are difficult to find and expensive. The best choice is a ten or twelve volt drill. Such a battery is comparatively cheaper and, most importantly, it is much easier to find it on sale.

After choosing the optimal equipment, you can collect materials. To create an engine, you must first acquire:

  1. An electric drill that will act as a motor.
  2. Clamps with which the drill will be attached.
  3. Reducer. You can use an element from a grinder if you plan to install the motor on the boat's transom.
  4. Round tubes with a diameter of twenty millimeters.
  5. Profiled pipes (20 * 20 millimeters).
  6. Round metal bar. It will be used to create an electric motor shaft.
  7. The sheet metal from which the screws will be made.

You will also need some tools:

  • scissors for cutting metal;
  • welding machine;
  • bulgarian;
  • electric drill with a set of drills;
  • self-tapping screws with a screwdriver, if wood will be used to create the motor.

After all the elements are assembled, you can begin to create an electric boat motor with your own hands. The whole procedure consists of several stages. Work should begin by creating a lifting mechanism for the impeller. In order for the future device to work properly, it is recommended to carefully follow the instructions provided below.

Creation of an electric motor

As mentioned earlier, it is necessary to start making an electric motor with your own hands by creating a lifting mechanism for the impeller. It will allow you to raise this element above the water. To create it, it is necessary to weld a metal tube to the previously prepared clamps.

On this tube, you must first attach a base (a frame that looks like a pyramid, directed by the smaller base in the direction of the water). A frame is attached to a large base, another tube is welded to the lower edge. A bearing is installed on the bed. A shaft must be passed through it and the tube welded from below.

A tube or wire can be used as a shaft. However, the first option is more successful:

  • firstly, bearings can be attached to the tube (at both ends), which will reduce the friction force;
  • secondly, it is desirable that this shaft is thin but strong. In the case of wire, you will have to use a product with a large diameter.

After all actions are completed, you can proceed to the next stage. The next step is to install the gearbox and propellers.

Reducer / propeller

It is recommended to attach gearboxes to the sides of the shaft. It is advisable to pre-create them yourself, focusing on the parameters of the electric motor. However, this process can take a very long time. Therefore, you can buy a device or use the gearboxes installed on the grinder.

One or two gearboxes may be required depending on the specific motor. When choosing a device, you must be guided by one basic rule - it is desirable that the transmitting number be small. Optimally, if the gearbox is able to reduce the speed by 5 times. This will allow the boat to run smoothly.

The lower gearbox is required for horizontal screw mounting. If a gearbox from a tool such as a grinder is used, it will be enough to clamp it in a drill chuck. Elements of other devices can also be used as a propeller. If not, you can make a homemade screw. This requires:

  1. Cut out a square (one side is thirty centimeters long).
  2. Drill a hole in its center.
  3. Make cuts diagonally (the distance between the cuts must be at least five centimeters).
  4. The resulting blades must be rounded. It is important that the size of the blades is the same, otherwise external vibrations may occur.

The propeller can be secured to the shaft using a bolt and nut. For this, a hole was made in the center of the metal sheet.

The latest improvements

Next, you need to connect the gearbox to the motor, that is, to the drill. This is easy to do - just clamp the gearbox in the drill chuck, as mentioned earlier. If the base does not match the size of the drill, an additional tube must be used.

The tube must be fitted tightly onto the shaft. To prevent the latter from rotating in it, a reliable fixation is needed. This can be achieved by making a through hole in the tube and shaft. Further, both elements must be fixed with a hairpin. This fixation will prevent rotational movements of the shaft.

After the device is ready, the homemade boat electric motor must be checked. It is enough to draw water into the bathtub and start the electric motor in it. If pressure is felt by hand, the engine is running normally. You can attach it to the vessel and carry out an inspection in the pond.

Motor control and other constructive options for its creation

Although the electric motor is ready, it is not yet capable of cornering. In order not to turn with the oars, minor modifications must be made to the design. It is enough to attach a bolt to the central part of the fastening, onto which then slide the pipe. This will make it possible to make turns by changing the position of the base and, accordingly, the electric motor.

One more handle can be welded to the base, bringing the regulator to it, which is responsible for supplying current to the motor. It would be advisable to use a rheostat. However, in this case, you will have to change the drill itself a little by connecting the motor located in its case with a rheostat. This will create a more functional design.

Screwdriver as a motor

There are several ways how you can make an electric motor. Instead of a drill, it is permissible to use a screwdriver. By design, it almost does not differ from a device with a drill. A distinctive feature of the product is its lower maintenance cost. So, one battery of twelve volts will be enough for six hours of operation of the device. However, you will have to sacrifice driving speed due to less power.

Large pitch propellers can be used to make the boat move faster. In addition, as in the previous case, the electric motor based on a screwdriver can be equipped with handles that facilitate control.

Electric motor from the trimmer

The trimer is also perfect for this purpose. The process of creating a motor using this device will be greatly facilitated. The only thing that the master will need to do is to shorten the length of the device and attach a screw to it. There is no need to mount the gearbox.

Also, there is no need to modify the control and the system responsible for powering the motor. The only difficulty that can be encountered on the way is the problem of attaching the device to the boat. Especially inflatable. But it is also solvable.

As an electric motor, you can use units due to which the windscreen washers work, or a simple electric motor. In the latter case, power supply difficulties may arise, since standard motors operate at the expense of an alternating voltage of two hundred and twenty volts. The problem is solved by installing an inverter.

Thus, the owner of the watercraft can create an electric motor for the boat with his own hands. You don't need special skills for this. You just need to purchase the necessary materials and prepare some tools. It is recommended to use a drill with a power of more than one hundred and fifty watts as a motor. This indicator will allow the boat to move both with standing water and along the river.
In addition to a drill, you can use a trimer or a conventional electric motor. Another option is an electric motor based on a screwdriver. Such a device is cheaper to maintain, but problems with the speed of movement of the boat may arise.

A jet boat motor is a unit that sets the floating craft in motion by the reactive force of the water flow created by it.

The principle of operation of the jet is that the water sucked in by the impeller through the intake grate passes under pressure in the narrow body of the propeller and, exiting through the narrow nozzle, creates a jet stream for the propeller.

Such a motor consists of the following parts:

  • Comprising 1 to 4 cylinders, air-cooled or water-cooled four-stroke gasoline engine. Engine power on jet engines ranges from 2.0–2.5 hp. on budget models up to 100–150 hp on premium motors.
  • Controls - tiller with throttle. They are used to change the speed and direction of the boat. In premium models, there is no tiller, and the motor is controlled remotely using a remote control specially located next to the angler.
  • Deadwood (leg) - a casing located between the propeller and the engine with a shaft enclosed inside it, transmitting rotational movements from the engine to the propeller impeller. Also on the deadwood there is a clamp (latch) for attaching the motor to the boat transom.
  • Propeller - a working part of a jet engine, which includes a body with a water intake grate and a nozzle located at different ends. An impeller located inside the propeller body creates a jet stream of water - a propeller located vertically or at a slight angle, driven by a deadwood shaft. When the engine is running, it sucks in water through the water inlet and, when it passes through a tunnel inside the body, accelerates the flow to a high speed, eventually throwing it out through the nozzle. Thus, the jet stream of water obtained during the operation of the impeller propels the boat forward.

Important. In more detail, the device, characteristics and features of the use of a jet boat motor of a particular model are described in the operating manual attached to it.

Advantages and disadvantages

This type of motor has both advantages and disadvantages.

The benefits include:

  • Ability to quickly maneuver, turn, and turn
  • Opportunity to overcome shallow waters, overgrown with grass and zagruzhennye areas of reservoirs.
  • Safety - the impeller is located inside the propeller body and cannot damage a bather or underwater hunter who is near the boat in the water.
  • Stability of the watercraft - due to the constant pumping of water by the propeller, the boat seems to stick to the surface of the reservoir, due to which it withstands sharp turns even at high speed.

In addition, this design of the jet allows you to avoid winding of algae and grass on the impeller, its damage by branches and snags.

The disadvantages of this kind of motors include the risk of damage to the propeller body during frequent movement in shallow and cluttered areas, a decrease in efficiency at high speeds, high cost and expensive unit repair in specialized workshops and service centers.

Application

Water cannons are used by fishermen and lovers of river walks in areas with medium and shallow depths and a large amount of grass, snags, stones. Thanks to the use of a closed screw and a water intake hole protected by a grate, it is protected from jamming when large branches, stones and grass get inside. Small grass and algae that get inside the propeller along with the water flow through the intake grate are crushed by the impeller and do not affect the operation of the motor.

Water cannons are well suited for moving on shallows and shallows

Important. The speed and safety of a boat with a jet engine is affected by its installation. If positioned correctly, the plane of the intake grate should be slightly above the bottom of the boat. In this case, the unit will be protected from impacts on the bottom, stones and driftwood. When water is drawn into it, air will not enter it, which causes dips and a decrease in engine power.

Water jet nozzles

Water jet nozzles for outboard motors are devices that allow you to turn a propeller motor into a water cannon at low cost.

Such a nozzle consists of a durable body (snail) with a nozzle and a water intake grate ("intake") and an impeller located inside it with a special bushing.

The principle of operation of such a nozzle is similar to that of a water cannon - the water sucked in by the impeller through the intake grate is accelerated inside the nozzle to a high speed and, exiting through the nozzle, ensures the movement of the floating craft. For braking, a special flap is used that blocks the nozzle and provides an instant stop of the boat.

The main advantages of such a device include a low price, simple and labor-intensive installation, an increase in the passability of a boat with a motor in previously inaccessible shallow water areas. The disadvantages of water jet nozzles for a boat motor include a strong clogging of the intake with small grass, severe damage to the hull when carelessly moving through heavily coiled and littered shallow waters, careful care and maintenance of the impeller and bushing.

DIY making

You can not only buy a water cannon, but also do it yourself. How you can make a similar unit for pvc boats from a motor for petrol cutters and improvised tools is described in the next video.

The manufacturing process for such a water cannon is as follows:

  1. for the engine, a shaft is made of special high-strength steel;
  2. the shaft, together with 2 support bearings, is placed in a protective casing made of light aluminum tube;
  3. at the end of the shaft, a homemade jet nozzle is mounted - a vertically located impeller in a snail housing. In order to prevent water from getting from the body of the jet nozzle into the shaft casing, it is sealed with a gland.
  4. fastening of such a water cannon to the boat transom is carried out by means of a clamp welded to the shaft casing.

Such a home-made jet engine, although it will not develop a very high speed, will nevertheless allow to effectively force shoals and rifts on rivers, shallow areas of lakes and reservoirs.

Important. Since such a water cannon has a small tank, you should take cans with a supply of fuel with you to add fuel: (5 liters - when walking a short distance, 10 liters - for long and long voyages).

Top 3 expensive models

The most common and popular models of water cannons among professional anglers and athletes are the following:

It is an ultralight water cannon designed for inflatable boats. Equipped with a 30.5cc single-cylinder 2-stroke gasoline engine. cm, air-cooled and manual start. A small 0.6 liter fuel tank is integrated into the engine housing. The disadvantage of such a water cannon is its large weight for such power - 10 kg. You can buy such a unit for 12,000-13,000 rubles.

Thus, water-jet boat engines and their attachments are a good alternative to common propeller-driven units. When moving through shallow waters and heavily littered areas of reservoirs, due to their design and location on the boat's transom, they are the only option for a power unit for a floating craft of any size and type.

Every fisherman thought about replacing the store motor for the boat with an alternative engine. They learned to create it from lawn mowers, petrol cutters and even screwdrivers, since their cost is several times lower than the price of a ready-made sample. The most suitable option is a trimmer, since this device is equipped with all the necessary elements and mechanisms.

Benefits of using a trimmer

Using a trimmer to create an outboard motor has several advantages:

  • much cheaper than a finished boat motor;
  • minimal fuel consumption;
  • light weight;
  • reliability;
  • tightness of the structure;
  • availability of ready-made elements for control;
  • built-in tank, etc.

Thanks to these qualities, the trimmer takes first place among other options for alteration.

Features of a homemade engine

When converting the motor, it should be borne in mind that they were developed to perform different functions. The trimmer operates at high RPM and low torque, but the outboard motor should do the opposite. Therefore, reworking the device requires special tools and even a drawing.

It is more convenient and easier to build an engine from a trimmer, since it has a number of necessary components of mechanisms:

  1. very economical engine;
  2. built-in unpainted fuel tank, which makes it easy to control the amount of fuel;
  3. the presence of a starter and gas in the device;
  4. a bar equipped with a rigid shaft.

It remains only to buy the missing parts or make them yourself and you can start making the engine for the boat.

What can be done

There are several options for customizing the trimmer for a boat motor.

Option number 1.A very simple way, but it requires additional financial costs.

You will need to purchase the following parts:

  1. Clamp for attaching the device to the boat transom.
  2. Propeller screw. You can purchase a ready-made set via the Internet, since such goods may not be available in stores. The package includes a special drive made of stainless steel, as well as universal adapters for a flexible trimmer shaft, which allows you not to bother with whether they fit your model of petrol cutters or not.

Advice! Sometimes there may be a clamp in the package, so before buying it, clarify what is included in the package.

The drawing of the trimmer attachment is indicated in the instructions. Installation will take about half an hour.

Option number 2. For alteration, you will need an angular gear from a grinder, a screw that can be cut from a sheet of stainless steel, as well as oil seals and bearings for fasteners. This method allows you to achieve maximum speed, despite the small propeller pitch. In the field, the device requires additional adjustment, which is carried out using pliers.

Option number 3. This method is performed as personally as possible. Let us consider it in more detail using the example of a petrol brush with a two-stroke engine with a volume of 25 cm 3. The device weighing 4.5 kg and a power of 700 W is equipped with a bent leg. A trimmer with such power allows the boat to move at a speed of about 5-7 km / h.

What is required

For manufacturing, you will need materials, as well as tools:

  1. Trimmer.
  2. Duralumin with a thickness of 2 mm. It is required for the screw.
  3. Clamp or any other device for attaching the device to the boat.
  4. Welding machine.
  5. Fasteners.
  6. Additional tools for work.

All the necessary elements can be bought or made by yourself. A drawing may be needed to develop a homemade propeller, but not for a drive. The propeller dimensions directly depend on the power of the drive, as well as on the weight of the boat. For example, a propeller with dimensions of 10x3 cm is capable of moving vehicles weighing about 120 kg.

Manufacturing instruction

To make a boat engine from a conventional trimmer, you will need to follow these steps:

To run in a home-made engine, you will need a tank of gasoline (0.5 liters) with oil in a ratio of 1:40. One tank of fuel allows you to cover about 10 km of territory. The speed of a floating craft with such a motor is in the range of 5.6 - 7.9 km / h, depending on the load of the boat.

  1. It is much easier to convert a straight shaft trimmer. If the bar is bent, it will need to be completely replaced as the steel cable will not be able to transmit the required torque. To change the bent shaft, you need to use a duralumin tube, press a bronze bushing into it and mount it in a suitably fitted holder.
  2. The screw should be created according to the drawing from duralumin. If necessary, its dimensions can always be adjusted.
  3. Installation of the screw should be carried out in place of the trimmer head. Be sure to make an annular nozzle to protect the cylinders.
  4. On the Internet, you can order ready-made kits and save time on creating elements yourself. The package contains all the necessary adapters to the shaft and the drive, sometimes even a clamp is included in the package.
  5. The device can be operated using the starter handle, but very often it is inconvenient to use. It can be easily replaced with a conventional bicycle derailleur.
  6. A clamp is used to secure the engine, and the fastening itself is made on the boat transom.
