Underground trash cans. ECOLIFT™ - an innovative system for the collection and underground storage of municipal solid waste Underground containers for solid waste

And back to discoveries...
Despite the fact that I have been in Europe dozens of times, and in Croatia, which we are talking about, four times, the picture I saw early in the morning struck me.
It would seem that the usual collection of garbage in ordinary bins in public place, but... the way it is organized on the Croatian islands deserves a separate story.

2. So, the island of Vis, Central Dalmatia.
Nice Old city with a long promenade along which there are numerous shops, restaurants and moorings for sailing and motor yachts.
In the high season, a lot of people walk here every day, eating bureks and ice cream, drinking cola and beer, and, of course, they all need to throw garbage somewhere. Quite a common story.
What happens in many of our cities in places like this?
That's right, by the evening the bins are often overflowing, people have nowhere to throw away a can of beer or an ice cream container, and garbage begins to accumulate around the bins and just in a variety of places.
The typical problem of overcrowded bins, which many cities try to cope with with varying degrees of success, has been successfully solved on the Croatian islands.
Here we see what seems to be the most common urns.
Logically, they should fill up quickly, because. not so roomy.
But not everything is so simple. In fact, under each of the bins is a large dumpster. Only underground.

3. ... in the morning, the public utilities came to pick up the garbage accumulated after their last visit.
The worker extends the air hose from the garbage truck, connects it to a special connector...

4. ... and his partner turns on the air supply ...

5. ... the platform with the urns begins to slowly rise....

6. ... well, under it are containers with garbage. The worker can only push each of them to the garbage truck, return it back and lower the platform into place ...

7. The whole process took 5 minutes, and the area around was clean, and will be until the next arrival of the scavengers, there will be enough containers for all tourists with their cans and wrappers.

My previous photo essays and photo stories:

It's nice that every day our life is getting better and more fun. The phone is already able to replace huge computers, the robot rover takes pictures of itself on Mars, and tickets to space will soon be sold to everyone. And nothing happened to the garbage for a long time. Remember what street tanks look like in your yard? If in Moscow the situation with this is even more or less decent, then in the regions one cannot approach a garbage container without a gas mask. Containers darken the life of the districts in every possible way - they smell bad, sometimes catch fire, homeless people dig there, rats breed, and the wind spreads garbage throughout the district. What to do? Waste containers should not be! Today we will talk about underground garbage storages. Maksim Evgenievich and I decided to make such a system near Shchukino, to the delight of local residents. Let's see what it is.

01. Garbage cans in my beloved Omsk look like this. I don't think this picture will surprise anyone. Everyone is used to the fact that every yard has a disgusting place that exudes a stench throughout the area.

02. What to do with it? All garbage cans must be removed underground. There should be no disgusting dirty containers! There are several types of underground waste collection systems. This one is the simplest. Ordinary tanks on the lift go down, and only the garbage receptacle remains on top, like a conventional garbage chute.

When a car arrives, the containers are lifted and emptied. It looks something like this:

03. From above, everything is clean and tidy.

04. Nothing smells, nothing flows along the roads and does not rot in the sun.

05. There are different types of receivers, such as for glass, paper or household waste.

06. This is how the containers look in the complex.

07. So they rise.

08. The next system is harder, but better. Here the receiver and the tank are a single unit. The advantages are obvious - the system is completely sealed. It is serviced faster - no need to push the tanks, nothing falls out. And most importantly - it is many times more capacious than one tank. Depending on the size, such an underground tank can be up to 5 times larger than a conventional container. And this means that you can take out the garbage less often.

The container can be large - the garbage is automatically pressed there.

09.

10. Access to the tanks can be made by cards so that only the residents of the house can use them. This is necessary in cases where garbage collection is paid and residents do not want to pay extra.

11. But the coolest thing is the regional vacuum garbage chute! I dream of building one in Shchukino!

12. The horizontal system works on the principle of pneumatic mail. Garbage can be pressed in tanks and fly away to storage. All waste bins in the area can be connected to such a system. Beauty. Garbage automatically goes to the distribution point, from where it is taken to landfills. Also, existing garbage chutes in houses can be connected to this system. The vacuum system requires serious investments - about 500 million rubles for 10,000 apartments, but pays off in 30 years, since hundreds of garbage cans do not need to be serviced daily.

13. The latest trash fashion is solar-powered trash cans! They compact the garbage and do not consume electricity at all.

14. How do we pay for garbage collection now? Shared by all apartments. Access to the tank can be by cards. You can connect a billing system to the tank and then each resident of the house will pay only for what he threw away! The system can even weigh trash and rate it! This is the garbage future!

The advantages of underground storage facilities are obvious: they take up little space, they do not spoil the view of the street, they are easier to maintain, they do not smell, they do not attract homeless people and animals. The cost of such a system is from 400,000 rubles per tank. Approximately so much the Moscow authorities spend a year on maintenance of asphalt in one yard. Garbage cans should decorate the yard!

Want an even bigger junk future? Here it is! Garbage distribution system according to the color of the bags.

Purchasing an in-ground container for solid waste is a wise and practical decision. By choosing an underground waste collection system, you get the following benefits:

  • reduction of transport costs;
  • durability and long service life of the container;
  • increasing the volume of storage of solid waste at the existing waste site without leaving their existing dimensions;
  • no need to install components required for container sites: fences around the waste bin and sheds;
  • no spread of odors;
  • elimination of risks such as heavy covers, sharp corners, wheel breakage and the appearance of puddles from waste with an unpleasant odor;
  • 100% unloading of garbage from the container at any time of the year;
  • attractive and aesthetic design.

The design is a "glass" with a hermetically sealed lid. Height including cover - 3,06 meters and diameter 2,0 meters. After installation (burrowing), the visible part with the cover - 1,46 meters. The window for garbage bags is located at the level of 1.0 meters. Produced in various color schemes based on customer requests.

Deep containers for solid waste are not afraid of almost any weather! Due to the presence of a sealed lid, precipitation is prevented from getting inside. It is resistant to vandalism, spilling and scattering of debris is excluded. The content is inaccessible to both animals and inauspicious social elements.

Underground waste collection system provides waste storage at low temperatures. Due to the fact that the contents are compacted under their own weight, the processes of decay are slowed down and unfavorable odors are reduced. In summer, at high temperatures, bacterial growth is reduced. In winter, with frost and low temperatures, there is no icing of waste.

For the accumulation and storage of garbage, a special strong bag is used, which allows you to extract and unload the contents using a garbage truck with a crane-manipulator in a matter of minutes. The process of emptying the container from the accumulated garbage is simple and absolutely safe: there are no sharp corners and puddles of waste, problems with wheel breakage are excluded, and plastic cover doesn't have much weight. In addition, the outreach of the boom crane reaches 11 meters, which ensures the independence of the garbage truck from parked vehicles. The bag also protects the buried container itself from debris, eliminating the need to clean the bottom.

And of course, one of the main factors in choosing an in-ground container for solid waste is its cost-effectiveness! The vertical design allows you to significantly free up and expand the space occupied by ground containers, since with a vertical design, the capacity is 5 m3, and the occupied area is only 2 m3. In other words, one buried container is equal in volume to 5 ground containers of 1100 liters. Thus, additional free space opens up in residential courtyards for parking cars, placing children's and sports grounds, as well as flower beds and flower beds.

Installation buried containers for garbage collection. Ural56.Ru found out the pros and cons of new devices for the city.

The buried container is a tank with a bag inside. Two-thirds of it is dug into the ground, and a small part with a lid remains on the surface. Such a container can have a capacity of up to 5 cubic meters (about 7 standard ground tanks). A special machine with a loading device takes out a sealed bag made of dense “fabric” from it and pours its contents into the body.

Benefits of buried containers

Manufacturers note such positive aspects of buried containers as:
  • saving space in yards ( most of hidden underground, and the above-ground part takes up less space than several conventional tanks);
  • large volume of containers;
  • maintaining a constant temperature regime due to being underground (according to their data, garbage does not freeze in winter and does not deteriorate in summer).
Residents of Orenburg, where such containers have been installed in many parts of the city for several years, also note positive, practical aspects use of such devices. According to them, through a small hatch, indeed, less unpleasant odor comes out than from open, ground tanks. And the lid does not prevent the spread of garbage by animals, birds and people without a fixed place of residence.

However, the fact that the temperature in them is always positive, our interlocutor, a resident of the regional center denied. For example, he cited a situation where, after burning such a tank and, accordingly, extinguishing it in winter, a block of ice turned out to be in the bag.

Minuses

Buried containers in Orenburg, 2018

To install such containers, certain conditions are required, so they cannot appear anywhere. At a minimum, in order to dig a sufficiently large tank into the ground, the site must be free from all communications, including pipelines and cables.

Buying such containers is quite an expensive pleasure. They are several times more expensive than conventional tanks.

In addition, special vehicles are needed to remove garbage from them. There are no such people in Orsk yet. And the situation with garbage collection, which is taking shape in the city today, causes concern - now the operator cannot even cope with the removal of waste from ordinary containers if he has cars. Will there be even more problems with the advent of new tanks, and will the responsible organization have the necessary equipment?

Bulky trash

And of course, we must not forget about large-sized garbage. It is impossible to put large waste into a buried container, and the hatch for dumping garbage is not very large. Orchans are accustomed to putting everything that can fit into above-ground tanks. Here the townspeople will have to retrain.

V Orenburg collection of bulky waste is organized at special sites, near buried containers. Where there are no designated places, garbage is piled right next to their above-ground parts. How this will be organized in Orsk, no one says yet.

In the Kaluga region, garbage containers are being installed, from which nothing can be removed manually. New tanks are almost completely buried in the ground - only a cover with a hatch rises above the surface. The authorities refer to the European experience and assure that no one has come up with anything better yet.

The first modern garbage tanks were installed in the vicinity of Kaluga. They rise above the ground by only a meter, and two-thirds are buried. A special crane removes the accumulated waste from them - it takes out liners from the containers and cleans them, dumping the contents into a garbage truck. Thanks to their large capacity, they need to be emptied less frequently than conventional waste bins.

This is the first experience in Russia borrowed from Germany. It will significantly reduce the cost of garbage collection and its transportation to the city dump.

Multifunctional crane trucks, which the authorities also want to attract to collect large debris, are purchased at the expense of the regional budget. At the expense of the local treasury, new garbage sites will also be equipped and 240 new containers will be purchased. It is planned to install "deep" tanks in the suburbs - in the private sector and dacha cooperatives.

New containers already inspected Head of Kaluga Nikolai Polezhaev. He was especially pleased with the technology of removing garbage from the tank. “The use of such containers is modern and civilized,” the official said.

Similar containers have been used in Europe for 15 years. There they are divided by type of garbage: plastic is thrown into some, glass into others, etc. In Russia, such separation of waste is only in the future. The key advantage of in-ground containers is that the garbage in them is compacted under its own weight. And due to the fact that part of the tank is underground, the garbage does not heat up in hot weather, which helps to avoid unpleasant odors.

In turn, skeptics point out that, for example, if the tank lid is not closed, stray animals or homeless people who are looking for glass containers, clothes and food in the garbage can fall into it. However, experts say that this is impossible due to the design features of special containers.

E-mine, it seems that we have no other problems in Kaluga, except for putting garbage into nano-tanks. People have nowhere to live, roads are broken, there is no gas in the villages, for that money was found in the budget for super tanks for garbage! Maybe this is a cool initiative, but not a top priority. Why didn't they like the old tanks? Take them out regularly and everything will be fine. And if there are interruptions in the export of new tanks, then you will have to look for these containers under the mountains of garbage.

The container is undeniably beautiful. Now let's imagine this life situation: someone made repairs at home, and construction waste (pieces of tiles, bits of pipes, boards and old toilet bowls) he will quietly put into this super-meganan container. And in the morning an expensive crane will arrive to pull out a huge bag from this giga-urn, and what will happen? either a torn bag, or a crane that has fallen on its side, or both. Well, it's not practical at all! Yes, if ordinary garbage simply migrates into it (pass by the containers and evaluate what lies in them and nearby), this plastic bucket with a fire extinguisher will not live for a long time.

Three new dumpsters have already been installed near the village Kosarevo, next to a spring popular with Kaluga residents. In the near future, new containers will appear in the village Nekrasovo. At the same time, in locality there is not only a garbage dump, but also no running water, street lighting, a store, a pharmacy, and suburban buses do not go there.

In fact, a cool thing - they look beautiful, aesthetically pleasing. In addition, they are environmentally friendly - the wind and dogs will not take away the garbage. I know the village trash cans - the wind blew and the garbage was blown all over the district, besides, there are rarely garbage trucks in the villages and waste accumulates in the mountains. And this is the solution to the problem.

A garbage container should be foolproof to the point of madness, how long did the old Soviet-era containers serve? And the new cool ones on wheels? But of course, the new ones are prettier. But beauty should not be at the expense of functionality, and here we are seeing exactly that.
