November 19 is the day of the missile forces and. Day of missile forces and artillery in Russia. Countrywide celebration

Although decades have passed since the end of the Great Patriotic War, the events of those heroic years have been carefully preserved in the memorable dates of our country. One of these dates is the Day of Missile Forces and Artillery. This professional holiday is celebrated on November 19 and was established in honor of the defeat of the Nazi invaders at Stalingrad in 1942.

The Battle of Stalingrad is the largest land military operation in which rocket forces and artillery played a decisive and key role. The date of November 19, 1942 was a turning point not only in the battle of Stalingrad, but also in the entire Great Patriotic War. It was on this day that the Soviet troops completely seized the initiative, which marked the beginning of the mass expulsion of the fascist invaders from the territory of the USSR and the triumphant victory of the Soviet Union over the Third Reich.

In honor of this memorable date, on October 21, 1944, a decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR was issued on the establishment of a memorable Artillery Day on November 17. Later, in 1964, the holiday was given a slightly different name - the Day of Missile Forces and Artillery. In our time, the Day of the Artilleryman is celebrated on the basis of the decree of the PVS of the USSR, which was issued in 1988. I must say that in the calendar of memorable dates in Russia there is another day dedicated to the people of this courageous military profession, the Day of Strategic Missile Forces, which is celebrated on December 17. These are different holidays, which should not be confused.

Artillery Day Traditions

Today, rocket forces and artillery do not lose their important strategic importance. Russian missile and artillery units are among the most powerful in the world. This is the Russian military elite, which carefully preserves heroic traditions and multiplies the experience of the Soviet armed forces. Rocket troops and artillery stand guard over the security of our country and are ready at any moment to fulfill their military duty, protecting its interests in combat conditions.

Every year, on the Day of the Artilleryman, parades are held at which the latest achievements in the development of military equipment are demonstrated, demonstration shootings are held, solemn events and receptions are held at the highest government level, and holiday concerts are organized with the participation of Russian pop stars.

Almost every military unit has its own holiday: Anti-Ballistic Missile Troops Day, Airborne Forces Day, Air Force Day. The Day of Rocket Forces and Artillery was no exception. On this day, the artillerymen receive special attention, they demonstrate the capabilities of modern Russian artillery and, of course, mark the anniversary of the beginning of the counter-offensive of the Battle of Stalingrad, which marked the beginning of a new period of the Second World War. The Day of Rocket Forces and Artillery is an important date not only for the representatives of these troops, but also for the entire Russian history.

History

The beginning of the war was very difficult for the Soviet army: there was not enough ammunition, new equipment, talented commanders were repressed, so there were problems with the command staff. German troops marched through the territory of Belarus and Ukraine, behind them were already the conquered Baltic, Moldavia and Estonia. The Soviet Union lost a huge number of industrial centers, which caused problems with the provision of troops. In 1942, the situation changed: the battle for Moscow allowed the Nazis to be driven back from the capital of the Soviet Union, and the defense of Crimea continued. The troops of the Red Army planned and conducted a series of successful military operations, which dealt a significant blow to Germany, which simply did not have time to make up for the losses of equipment and soldiers.

Stalingrad was one of the most important strategic points - its owner received not only a huge number of industrial enterprises, but also access to the railway leading to the Caucasus and Transcaucasia. That is why the capture of the city was so important for Germany. The Soviet government understood that the loss of the city on the banks of the Volga would be a heavy blow to the military forces of the USSR. On July 17, 1942, the defense of Stalingrad began, which dragged on for eight long months. By the end of August, most of the residents were evacuated; in September, German troops broke into the city. For each quarter destroyed by the bombing, a difficult struggle was waged, both the Wehrmacht and the Soviet army suffered huge losses, but no one was going to surrender.

On November 19, 1942, a counter-offensive began, which made it possible to cut off one of the German armies holding the city from supply channels. It was this day that was later celebrated as the Day of the USSR Missile Forces and Artillery. The successful military operation marked the beginning of a series of victories that led to the liberation of Stalingrad and a turning point in the course of the war.

Holiday establishment

In 1944, the key role of the gunners in the Battle of Stalingrad was marked by the establishment of the Day of Artillery, which twenty years later was renamed the Day of Rocket Forces and Artillery. The celebration has been preserved to the present day. True, it has been renamed again: now November 19 is the Day of Russian Missile Forces and Artillery.

The current position of artillery and missile forces in Russia

Currently in service is a huge amount of artillery weapons. Today, all artillery is subdivided into rocket, rocket and artillery brigades proper, the main tasks of which are not only the capture and defense of strategically important objects, but also reconnaissance and damage to command and control systems.

Rocket and Artillery Day is a great opportunity to showcase the latest weapons. Today the Msta-SM howitzers are being modernized, the Tornado-G jet and the Chrysanthemum-S anti-tank missile systems, the famous Iskander-M and Topol-M missile systems are being put into use.

The Day of Rocket Forces and Artillery - November 19 - is celebrated with demonstration performances of troops, shooting practice and military parades; in many cities, commemorative events and the laying of flowers at memorials are held.

Don't be confused!

Very often, the Day of the Missile Forces and Artillery is confused with another military event - the Day of the Strategic Missile Forces. In fact, the difference between these holidays is colossal. Nevertheless, November 19 is more a holiday of the gunners, and December 17 (the date of the second holiday) is a soldier of the rocket forces. For servicemen, congratulating them on the "wrong" day can even become a reason for resentment, so be sure to remember: Day of missile forces and artillery - November 19.

Celebration in schools

When is the day of rocket troops and artillery? Not every adult can answer this question, let alone modern schoolchildren, who, in principle, are not particularly interested in the army. But at the same time in some schools special events are held, which tell not only about the troops themselves, but also about their role in military affairs. The main purpose of such meetings is to foster patriotism in the younger generation and to familiarize themselves with the latest models of military equipment. Often the activities are held as part of military training lessons.

Countrywide celebration

Day of missile forces and artillery in Russia is usually celebrated on a grand scale. In Stalingrad itself, which is now called Volgograd, rallies and military parades are held. The military vehicles driving through the streets of the huge city look really impressive. Of course, one cannot do without festive concerts, at which songs of the war years are usually performed, and the laying of flowers at the monuments dedicated to the defense of the city and the military commanders who participated in the liberation of the city. In 2012, on the 70th anniversary of the famous counter-offensive, the holiday was celebrated not only in Volgograd, but also in other large cities of Russia: Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Voronezh and many others. In addition to traditional rallies, a demonstration of weapons from the Great Patriotic War was held, at which everyone could try dishes of real field cuisine.

Conclusion

When is the day of rocket troops and artillery? On the day when the first counter-offensive of the Battle of Stalingrad began, during which the troops of the Soviet Union were able not only to inflict significant damage on the troops of Nazi Germany, but also to completely change the position of forces. On the day when desperate soldiers and talented commanders were able to do what no one had before them in Europe, which had surrendered almost without a fight. On the day when the Soviet people showed what they are capable of, when something so expensive and important is at stake.

The Battle of Stalingrad is the largest land battle in the history of mankind, and we, the descendants, must not forget those who fell to defend the city on the Volga. Artillery troops are a unit without which the command would hardly have been able to achieve a turning point in the war, so their holiday is a truly significant event.

On November 19, Russia celebrates the Day of Missile Forces and Artillery. In the calendar of holidays, the date November 19 was chosen due to the fact that in 1942 it was on this day that the first phase of the Red Army's counter-offensive at Stalingrad began. From July to November 1942, the defensive operation continued, which extinguished the offensive impulses of the enemy, exhausted him and made it possible for the Soviet troops to prepare for a decisive strike in difficult conditions. The most important role in the counter-offensive operation was played by the use of artillery against the Nazi troops, which in the future served as the basis for introducing a new holiday into the calendar of military dates.

The plan of the Red Army's counter-offensive at Stalingrad called "Uranus" was developed by the Headquarters of the Supreme High Command and the General Staff since September 1942. G.K. Zhukov and A.M. Vasilevsky supervised the development of the operation plan. On November 13, Uranus was approved. Maintaining the secrecy of the plan made it possible to ensure the surprise of the counter-offensive and, due to the transfer of forces from areas that were not identified as strategically important, a significant advantage was ensured both in manpower and equipment in the strike directions.

The success in the Stalingrad operation actually ensured a radical turning point in the Great Patriotic War, and the Hitlerite army, in fact, was never able to finally recover from the defeat on the banks of the Volga.

In 1944, November 19 became an important military date - Artillery Day. An addition to this holiday in the form of missile troops appeared, for obvious reasons, later - in 1964.

However, speaking of missile forces and artillery, of course, one cannot ignore earlier historical periods. The first mention of the use of guns in our country, generally speaking, refers to the battle against the Horde Khan Tokhtamysh in 1382. During the defense of Moscow, fire was fired from the so-called mattresses (presumably from the Turkish "tufenk" - a gun and the Persian "tufang" - a pipe).

This firearm was originally used as a means of defense against city walls. In the same battle, chroniclers (in particular, the speech about the Nikon Chronicle) cite materials about the first use of classical cannons, which, according to historians, were mostly of foreign origin.

From the annals of 1389:

In the summer of 6879 (1389) they brought armata and fiery shooting from the Germans to Russia, and from that hour they enlightened to shoot from them.

For a long time, by the way, in the historical literature the term “from German” (in fact, from abroad) was dropped, which clearly did not add historical credibility.

And about today ...

What are Russia's missile forces and artillery in our time? It is an integral part of the Ground Forces, consisting of rocket, rocket, artillery brigades, including high-power artillery battalions, rocket artillery regiments, separate reconnaissance divisions and artillery formations of combined-arms brigades and military bases.

As part of the re-equipment and modernization of the Russian army, new equipment is being supplied to the troops, which simultaneously changes the appearance of the missile forces and artillery (RV and A). Only recently, the troops have been replenished with hundreds of weapons, including 152-mm self-propelled howitzers "Msta-SM", MLRS 9K51M "Tornado-G". The time of the "Tornado-G" salvo with 40 guides is 20 s. This ensures effective destruction of targets in areas with a declared firing range of up to 60 km (some sources report that 60 km is not the limit for a modernized MLRS model).

Anti-tank weapons, including the Chrysanthemum-S missile systems, are being delivered to RV and A. This is an all-weather multipurpose missile system designed to destroy not only those tanks that are already in service with a potential enemy, but also their promising versions. Chrysanthemum-S is effective against low-flying air targets and low-tonnage surface vessels. With its help, the defense of the enemy, who is also in cover, can be overcome. The complex has a high degree of protection against various radio interference. Maximum firing range - 6 km, minimum - 400 m. Ammunition transportable - 15 ammunition. Automatic loading has been implemented.

On the eve of the holiday, the head of the Missile Forces and Artillery, Lieutenant-General Mikhail Matveyevsky, noted that the plans include the transfer of RV and A from the Tochka-U complexes to the Iskander OTRK by 2020. RIA cites the statement of Mikhail Matveevsky:

At present, all formations of the Central Military District have been completely re-equipped. In addition, rearmament has been completed in the Southern and Eastern military districts.

It is worth noting that a feature of the Iskander-M OTRK, which is actively entering the troops, is that it is equipped with automation tools not only for preparing for launch, but also for launching missiles. The developers give a guarantee that the Iskander-M missile hits the target with a probable deviation of no more than 15 m. At the same time, active work is underway to equip Iskander missiles with all-weather seeker heads.

On this day, Voennoye Obozreniye congratulates all servicemen and veterans of the Rocket Forces and Artillery on the holiday. To the troops themselves - systematic development and improvement!

The Day of Missile Forces and Artillery has become one of the most memorable days in the history of the Armed Forces and is celebrated on November 19. The day of the calendar date was chosen because it coincides with a significant historical event - the victorious liberation of Stalingrad from the German invaders, the beginning of which was the counteroffensive of Russian troops. On this day, artillery soldiers are congratulated with special honor.

The turning point and so significant for the outcome of the war, the battle was successful thanks to one of the key roles that the gunners played. In 1964 the holiday got a new name - the Day of Missile Forces and Artillery. The Russian people sacredly honor and preserve examples of unyielding fortitude, heroism, courage of all soldiers participating in this war, heroes of thousands of battles who repulsed enemy forces.

The entire experience of using artillery and missile forces in armed conflicts proves the enormous role of their maneuverability, efficiency and firepower. The heroic traditions are adequately continued by modern generations of military missile and artillery troops of the RF Armed Forces. They fulfill their military duty with honor and nobility, master the latest weapons and equipment, improve their combat skills, the high level of which guarantees the performance of the necessary tasks in a variety of combat conditions. Celebrating this holiday, demonstration shootings, exercises, parades are held.

The Day of Missile Forces and Artillery is annually celebrated on November 19 on the basis of the decree of the President of the Russian Federation of May 31, 2006 "On the establishment of professional holidays and memorable days in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation" as a memorable day established in recognition of the merits of military specialists in solving defense problems and security of the state and designed to promote the revival and development of domestic military traditions, increase the prestige of military service.

Artillery is one of the oldest combat arms. The first information about the appearance of artillery in Russia dates back to 1382. It was then, when defending Moscow from the troops of Khan Tokhtamysh, Muscovites used the first artillery pieces against the besiegers - "mattresses" (guns firing with "shot" - pieces of iron, rubble, small stones) and "great cannons".

In the 16th century, artillery emerged as an independent branch of troops capable of supporting the actions of infantry and cavalry in battle, and until the end of the 17th century it was served by gunners and beepers. At the beginning of the 18th century, there was a division of artillery into field (including regimental), siege and serf. At the end of the 18th century, horse artillery finally took shape, and at the beginning of the 19th century, artillery regiments and brigades began to form. In the 1840s, mountain artillery appeared.

In the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905, Russian artillerymen first used firing from closed firing positions; then mortars appeared. By the beginning of the First World War (1914-1918), artillery was subdivided into field (light, horse, mountain), field heavy and heavy (siege). In the course of the war, anti-aircraft and self-propelled artillery was born, and somewhat later - anti-tank.

Today, the Rocket Forces and Artillery are a branch of the Ground Forces, which is the main means of fire and nuclear destruction of the enemy in the course of combined-arms operations (combat operations). They are designed to gain and maintain fire superiority over the enemy; the defeat of his nuclear weapons, manpower, weapons, military and special equipment; disorganization of the systems of command and control of troops and weapons, intelligence and electronic warfare; destruction of long-term defensive structures and other infrastructure; disruption of the operational and military rear services; weakening and isolation of the enemy's second echelons and reserves; the destruction of tanks and other armored vehicles of the enemy that have broken through into the depths of the defense; covering open flanks and joints; participation in the destruction of enemy air and sea landings; remote mining of terrain and objects; light support for night operations of troops; smoke, blinding of enemy targets; distribution of campaign materials and other tasks.

Organizationally, the Rocket Forces and Artillery consist of missile, rocket, and artillery brigades, including mixed, high-power artillery battalions, rocket artillery regiments, separate reconnaissance divisions, as well as artillery of combined-arms brigades and military bases.

In accordance with the plan of activities of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, a set of measures is being carried out aimed at qualitatively improving the structure, combat strength and number of the Missile Forces and artillery.
