There is a lot of literature on this subject on the Internet, but I did not find a clear and understandable instruction. Therefore, I offer my instructions, drawn up according to an accessible and simple algorithm.

1. What is a resume and what is it for?

If you still do not fully understand what a resume is, I suggest defining it:

Summary - this is brief self-presentation in writing of your professional skills, achievements and personal qualities that you plan to successfully implement at your future job in order to receive compensation for them (for example, in the form of money or other type of compensation)

In the past, I myself had to write a resume when applying for a job. Indeed, without this, no employer will even know about you and your professional skills.

I remember when I sat down to write my resume for the first time, it took me a lot of time to competently draw up and arrange it according to all standards. And since I like to understand everything thoroughly, I studied the question of its correct spelling very deeply. To do this, I talked with professional HR specialists and studied a large number of articles on the topic.

Now I know how to write a resume correctly and will gladly share it with you.

Due to the fact that I was able to write professional resumes, I have never experienced difficulties in getting a job. Therefore my knowledge is reinforced practical experience and are not dry academic theory.

2. How to write a resume correctly - 10 easy steps

Before moving on to the steps, I want you to remember 3 main rules for successful resume writing:

Rule # 1. Write the truth, but not the whole

Emphasize your strengths and don't mention your weaknesses too much. You will be asked about them at an interview, be prepared for this.

Rule # 2. Maintain a clear structure

The resume is written on 1-2 sheets, no more. Therefore, try to briefly and succinctly state in it all the necessary information, even if there is a lot of it.

Take care of the neat formatting of the resume text and its structured presentation. Since no one is pleased to read gibberish.

Rule # 3. Be optimistic and cheerful

Positive people attract success. In your case, a new job.

So, now let's move on to the structure of writing a resume.

Step 1. Title of the resume

Here you must write the word "Summary" and indicate who it was written for.

All this is written on one line.

Then your potential employer will immediately understand who owns the resume. For example, you have previously called a company of interest to you in order to find out if they still have this vacancy open. You were given a positive answer and offered to send your resume.

At the end of the first step, your resume will look like this:

Step 2. The purpose of the resume

It must be remembered that your resume must have a purpose. Correctly formulate it as follows (phrase):

The purpose of the resume is to apply for the position of an accountant

Since at this moment you are called that - a job seeker, that is, a person looking for a job, potentially applying for it.

At the end of the second step, your resume will look like this:

Step 3. Applicant and his data

At this point, you must write the following:

  • date of birth;
  • the address;
  • contact number;
  • e-mail;
  • marital status.

At the end of the third step, your resume should look like this:

Step 4. Education

If you have several entities, then write them in order.

For instance:

Moscow State University, 2005-2010,

Specialty: accountant (bachelor)

Moscow State University, 2007-2013,

Specialty: translator in the field of professional communication (bachelor's degree)

Step 5. Work experience

Please note that the column "work experience" is written in the resume starting from the most recent place of your work, if it is not the only one, and begins with the period spent in this position.

For instance:

Position: chief accountant's assistant;

Step 6. Job responsibilities

This item in the resume is not always required if the vacancy for which you are applying is quite widespread, and you held a similar position at a previous place of work.

Sometimes this item can be included in the previous one by writing your job responsibilities immediately after the position.

Step 7. Achievements in previous jobs

The item "Achievements" is one of the most important in the resume! It is much more important than education and even work experience.

Your potential employer wants to know what exactly he will pay you wages for. Therefore, it is very important to mention when writing a resume about all significant achievements in previous jobs. At the same time, please note that it is correct to write with words that are so-called "markers" for HR personnel considering your resume.

For example, it is correct to write:

  • increased sales volumes by 30 percent in 6 months;
  • developed and introduced new technology into production;
  • cut equipment maintenance costs by 40%.

Wrong to write:

  • worked on increasing sales;
  • took part in a project to create a new technology;
  • reduced equipment costs.

As you can see, it is also important to write specific numbers, as they very clearly reflect the essence of your achievements.

Your resume now looks something like this:

Step 8. Additional information

Here you need to describe your strengths, professional knowledge and skills that will directly help you to better and better perform the tasks assigned to you at your new place of work.

Usually they write the following here:

  1. Possession of a computer and special programs.This is true for office workers and employees whose direct work is related to the PC. For example, for designers, accountants, programmers, office managers.
  2. Knowledge of foreign languages.If your future job involves reading, translating or communicating in a foreign language and you know it to a certain extent, be sure to write about it. For example: English spoken.
  3. Having a car and driving skills.If your work involves business trips and you often have to drive a car, for example, working as a sales representative, then you should indicate the presence of your car, as well as the category of driver's license and experience.

Thus, in the additional information, along with knowledge of a computer and a foreign language, write: there is a personal car, category B, 5 years of experience.

Step 9. Personal qualities

There is no need to describe too many qualities here, especially if they do not apply to your future work. You can be a kind and sympathetic person, loving children and respecting your friends, but a potential employer will not be interested in reading about your “cordiality” and rich inner world.

For example, if you are applying for the position of an accountant, it would be good to write here: composure, attentiveness, punctuality, efficiency, mathematical mindset, ability to analyze.

If you are applying for a more creative profession, say, a designer or creator, then here you should indicate: a developed creative imagination, a sense of style, a non-standard view of the problem, healthy perfectionism.

It will be great if you mention your full name at the end of your resume. and the positions of your former managers, as well as indicate their contact numbers so that your potential employer or his representative could ascertain your professionalism, having received feedback about you from your previous direct managers.

Even if your potential employer will not call your former managers, the very fact of having contacts for recommendations will significantly increase his trust in you.

At the very end of the resume, you must indicate how long you are ready to start work, here you can also indicate the desired level of remuneration.

Often employers are looking for applicants on xx.ru by the criterion: "search in companies and industries "(the industry means the field of activity of the companies in which you worked). A link to the official website will help them better understand your experience work.

4. Don't torture him with long text.
Please describe succinctly your work experience. When an employer prints your resume from Headhunter, it is advisable that it will fit on 2 pages if you are under 30 (see sample resume), or a maximum of 4 pages if you are older. He will not be engaged in a long analysis of your work path: there are more than 34 million resumes on Head Hunter.

The employer's task is to select and print (download) the questionnaires of the best job seekers to call them. Don't make it difficult for him to choose. When an HR manager of a company or a recruiter looks at up to 100 resumes per day on xx.ru, by the end of the working day he already hardly understands the meaning of long texts. Therefore, he may overlook your profile on Headhunter, if he does not notice in it the desired keywords (professional skills from the list of requirements for a candidate for a vacancy).

5. Amaze him with your accomplishments in the last job.
Invest as much as possible in describing your experience and achievements in your last job. If hh.ru does not allow your resume to be placed in a related professional field, then be sure to create a duplicate of your resume on hh.ru (i.e., place a copy of your resume in the required professional field and required specialization). Correctly selected professional areas will help potential employers find you easier and faster... In the field of resume "Work experience", be sure to indicate the field of activity (one or more) of each company in which you worked (see above paragraph 3.2. Of our recommendations).

In addition, those employers who do not want to "fool" with applicants whose salary expectations are not known can simply tick the "Do not show resume without salary" checkbox in the resume search parameters on xx.ru. Do not indicate overpriced wages, this can also alienate the employer, especially if there is insufficient experience for his vacancy, or an unsuccessful resume. You will bargain at an interview with him, and you still need to get to him. As a rule, employers can move up in salary up to 20% upwards, from the one originally proposed, but you should interest him. And he, first of all, must first invite you for an interview.

9. Do not discount yourself among other applicants (update your resume infrequently).
Click on the buttons "Update resume" or "Update date" more often than 1 - 2 times a week (follow the date of updating the resume in the personal account of the applicant at pp hh.ru). We do not recommend using the hh "Auto-update resume" service (daily raises the applicant's profile in the search for the employer).

By frequently updating your resume on xx.ru, you will not find a faster job, you can rather harm yourself. Those companies and those looking for candidates for Headhunter in a certain professional segment regularly see the same candidates, incl. across daily resume subscription (auto search). And, if at first they could think about you, as a possible candidate for a vacancy, then with frequent updating of the questionnaire they may lose the desire to contact you. By frequently updating your resume, you devalue yourself in the eyes of this category of employers. They may think that you have not been able to find a job for a long time and, in despair, press the "Update resume" button on hh.ru every day.

Conclusion.
When you create "My" resume "online, download it from your personal account hh ru and print it.
Look through the eyes of the employer at "My" ready-made resume and answer the questions:

  1. what kind of job this person is looking for;
  2. how he looks in the photo;
  3. what salary he wants;
  4. by whom, where, in what markets and for how long he worked;
  5. what he did and what skills he mastered;
  6. what exactly did he achieve;
  7. what education he has.

Having run a glance at the questionnaire for 6 - 15 seconds. you must decide whether the experience and qualifications of the person concerned are appropriate for the job they are looking for. (If so, the employer will call him, and if not, he will forget about him and continue to search for other applicants on hh.ru). Plus, when you read the paper version of your ideal resume, it's easier to spot and correct mistakes in it.

Many see this section as an opportunity to indicate not only those professional skills that they actually possess, but also those that they possess at the theoretical level. Often students and young professionals with little work experience like to compile a huge list of key skills on hh.ru resumes. Another category of specialists likes to indicate here abstract formulations and banal things. Examples of such inappropriate skills are: "Speaking well", "Negotiating", "PC user", "Finding information on the Internet", etc. - this should not be done. Don't clutter your resume.

For these reasons, we (recruiters), first, before printing your profiles from Headhunter, usually delete such lists of key skills as unnecessary and useless information.

Examples of wrong and correct resume skills on hh

As mentioned in recommendation # 3 above, your core skills should be professional vocabulary / terms / abbreviations that are used in your professional environment. For example, in the resume of an Engineer specializing in "OPS Engineer", such skills may be: 1) "designing security systems (ACS) in AutoCAD; 2) setting up an ACS" Fireball ". These are rare skills for this specialty, so they must be specified exactly in the description of their duties on hh.ru (in the field of the resume form "Responsibilities, functions, achievements"), instead of writing abstract categories in the field "key skills" (for example: AutoCAD or "Design documentation").

When an employer sees just the term "AutoCAD" in the list of key skills on xx.ru, it is difficult for him to understand: whether you own this program at the university level (when you wrote your diploma), or whether you are really capable of designing in it at the level of an experienced designer. And if in the description of responsibilities, in your work experience, he reads the wording "design in AutoCAD ACS", he will understand unequivocally that you know how to work with projects in the field of security systems.

In this section of the resume on Headhunter, it is worth pointing out those skills that you could not appropriately apply in the description of your responsibilities, functions and achievements, but which you consider important and rare for your specialty... For example, for the same OPS Engineer, instead of clicking on the ready-made links "recommended skills", you better write in your own words "the skill of programming the ACS" Car "".

In the portfolio on hh.ru it is useful to upload copies of your own projects or drawings, which can be used to assess the complexity of engineering solutions. You can also attach photos of products to the portfolio (electronics developers like to do this).

In addition, instead of choosing from the list of skills that Headhunter offers, you can always write skills and knowledge useful for the employer, in your opinion, in the resume section hh " About me".

Why "my" job application has not been reviewed

Here are the main reasons, there can be many real reasons (starting with the fact that there is simply no one to view the responses and ending with the fact that the vacancy itself has already been closed, and the employer did not manage to remove it from publication on Headhunter or forgot).

1. The resume is not compiled thoughtfully or ineptly, excluding vacancy requirements... And sent to the employer with the hope that he himself will think of that you fully meet the requirements of the vacancy. And an employee of an organization, having received a questionnaire, looks at its annotation in his personal account xx.ru and does not understand your qualifications. He does not need to look through the resume. And he has no time or desire to call you and clarify your experience and skills.

2. You have clearly lacking qualifications for a vacant position, and this is immediately evident from the summary of the resume on hh.ru in the company's personal account. For this reason, your response may also not be viewed.

3. Employer confused by your desired salary in the resume, even if you indicated it as cumulative (salary + bonuses or bonuses). He sees a specific number in the questionnaire and usually suggests:
a) that you "cannot afford it", even if in reality you would agree to a lower salary for several months to this particular company;
b) the employer hh sees an annotation of the resume with an incomprehensible work experience, but with an understandable and high salary for him, therefore, he "keeps the brand" and does not make a review, so as not to "burn out". And he is waiting for other responses from applicants with a salary acceptable to him. If they do not wait for them, he can return to your profile.

4. The employer in the vacancy indicated vague requirements for candidates, therefore there are many responses(especially a lot of responses come from applicants to the pp hh.ru personal account in Moscow) which are difficult for him to understand. And he can limit himself to the first batch of received responses to the vacancy. Select several applicants from them and invite them for an interview. If you are not included in this party, and someone is selected from the selected applicants, the employer no longer needs to review your resume.

5. The company is looking for a candidate a certain gender or a certain age, and you do not fit these criteria. In the requirements of the vacancy, the employer cannot indicate his preferences by gender and age, and the Headhunter moderator will not allow him to do this (in accordance with Law No. 162-FZ). Therefore, by default, these criteria are applied to responses.

Cover letter for resume on hh.ru

The employer almost always reads cover letters in the responses of job seekers on hh.ru: he expects to see something useful for himselfwhen clicks on that link. For example, if you are a sales manager and have established personal connections with potential clients of the company for which you are going to apply for a vacancy, then it makes sense to write about it. It will definitely be interesting to him. This will induce him to call you. It is not necessary to fill the window for the cover letter with the template of the letter from Headhunter: "Hello. Please consider my candidacy for the vacancy ..."

If you are not sure about the value of your message to the company, then it's better not to write anything... This will not in any way diminish the likelihood of your response being considered. It is better to go over the eyes of this employer on your profile and look for what is useful for his vacancy in your work experience. If nothing "clings", then read the job description again and add a couple of sentences to the description of your work experience (indicate a couple of useful skills for this job), and then make a response. It is not necessary to write a cover letter for a resume on hh.ru.

How to hide "my" resume from an employer

If you do not want your current employer or company you do not want to see your profile, do the following:
1) log in to the applicant's personal account on hh.ru;
2) on your personal page, hover your mouse over "Resume" and select the subsection "My resumes";
3) under the name of the resume that you want to hide, click on the link "Change visibility";
4) select the item " Companies that have registered on hh.ru, except for ";
5) click on the link "Change the list";
6) fill in the "Add company" box - enter the name of the company from which you want to hide "My resume";
7) click "Finish";
8) click "Save" (this is in the "Visibility" section).

Previously, you need to look for the organization from which you want to hide your profile in the directory of companies that have registered on Headhunter. On the main page of the applicant's personal account:
1) click in sequence: companies - catalog of companies - search by companies;
2) check the box "Show companies that have no open vacancies";
3) enter the name of the company in the search field and click "Find";
4) search for firms both by their full name and by possible abbreviations.

But you should know that the organization that you put on the "black list" may register on HeadHunter under a different name, and you may not even know about it. In addition, the HR manager of the enterprise in which you are currently working may ask his colleagues from other firms (direct employers or) to check if his employees are on xx.ru. And in order not to "light up" you can simply do not indicate the name of the employer in the last place of work, instead, indicate the type of activity of the enterprise (in your own words or select a field of activity from the list xx.ru). Some job seekers do not include the names of the companies they currently work for on their resume, and there is nothing to worry about. They report this in a personal interview with a new potential employer.
